Last Edit June 29, 1999

We had rain. We had fog. We had high wind. We had cold nights. We wore jackets. And gloves. We chipped ice off the windshield. We wore shawls at the office. We used down comforters. And bitched and moaned. We set records for low temperatures. It made the news. We wondered where summer was. Especially on June 21. Never fear! Mother Nature did not forget. It hit 104 in Livermore. I drove thru Bakersfield at 95 at 7AM. No cold nights. No blanket. Drag out the fans. Find the wading pool. Shave the dog! It's summer. With a vengence. We already have fires raging. We already have smog alerts. I couldn't see the Sierra mountains from highway 99. I could barely see the foothills around the grapevine. We already have "Save the Air" days. You don't drive unless necessary. Put off shopping. Don't mow (unless an electric mower - and even then). Sun screen and hats. From too windy and cold to walk at lunch to too hot to step outdoors. Instant. My mind can't adjust. I just want to sleep. That front lawn won't get in now. It will have to wait. It's June 29th. Mother Nature getting even. |
