I have now seen this in several magazines
and even the newspaper - it is old, old old! I raised my kids with
this one. Peg Bracken comes to mind. In fact, one version doesn't
even have you stirring it. In fact, I stirred with a fork. Coarse
in texture. Kids love it. What other recommendation is there?
In fact, I could make this and have it cooking
while the hamburgers were frying in the pan. 20 minute dinners a
specialty of my house!
In a 9" round or square pan mix (sift
together:
1 1/2 Cups flour
1 Cup sugar
3 heaping tablespoons cocoa
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
6 Tablespoons canola oil
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 Cup water, warmed
Sift dry ingredients, all together, into the
baking pan. Make three holes with a spoon, put the oil in one, the
vinegar in the second and vanilla in the third. Pour water over
the top. Stir with a fork.
Bake at 350 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick
in the center comes out clean.
Serve warm by itself or with vanilla ice cream.
