Dec 20, 2000 We made these every year - since the 1950's.
Now they are in all the magazines. And on HERSHEY'S website. 1/3 Cup shortening 1/2 Cup granulated sugar 1/2 Cup brown sugar, packed 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/8 teaspoon baking soda Dash Salt 1 egg 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 3/4 Cups all-purpose flour 2 Tablespoons milk Beat peanut butter and shortening with an electric mixer for 30 seconds. Add both sugars, baking powder, soda and salt and beat until combined, scraping down the bowl. Beat in egg and vanilla. Beat in as much flour as possible with the mixer, then stir in the rest (wooden spoon). Shape dough into 1" balls, roll into 1/4
Cup granulated sugar, place 2" apart on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake
at 350 degrees 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. . Into
the center of each - pop a Hershey's kiss (unwrapped). If you put the chocolate in before baking - it gets weird, it's great
warm but the cooled cookie is quite different in taste! Either way is
good! |
