Toys, I like Toys

2000

      Let's see.
Loaded PhotoShop 5.5 on my G4 tower. Now that was a tricky job!
First, I had to load PhotoShop 4 onto the G4 - since it was originally loaded on the old machine.
Then I had to open PhotoShop - because typing in the serial number once was not enough.
Then I had to load PhotoShop 5.5 upgrade. But this upgrade, you see, hunts for the older software. And the older software has had to be run (so you have the second typing in of the serial number). Somehow it knows this.
Once it has satisfied itself, then it will load.
So, after fighting with this, I was happily prepared for Ilustrator 8. I loaded Illustrator 7 and opened it and then loaded Illustrator 8 upgrade. It hunted. After I had it loaded, I added the "extra buttons".
And then I tried playing with this new toy.
      Oh my!
If you use a drawing or illustration program (Illustrator runs on PC, UNIX and Mac), you will understand this.
The brush libraries are pieces of art. You choose a pattern, swipe a brush stroke and voila - you have a swath of art. Some of the choices are pieces of fruit, vegetables, even people. A brush stroke draws one object in all its line detail.
      Incredible. My cookbook project beckons.
I have other software to load. A new system is a tedious process. One step at a time.
      I did discover one thing.
ATM as loaded from the Illustrator CD fails (crashes the G4). I had to go into the control panel and turn it off. I will seek an upgrade to it. Type Reunion I also turned off.
I have also learned that once in a while you must reboot. And after a cold start, you must restart (warm start) and then the modem will come back on.
Scared me before I found that out. I trust Opsys 10 fixes this "feature".
      I play with ImageStyler tomorrow.
      Now there is a toy!
You see, it's another web plaything.
      Simple things delight me.
