2005 Story Set
| Date: Nov 2, 2005 I am unloading the car - watering the yard - still with hoses - drinking a cup of decaf - and checking 1100 emails (mostly junk). DSL equipment has arrived - ho ha - I am too buzzed to deal with it I got up at 7AM today - which means I am a bloody mess all day given yesterday. I drove down yesterday with a load of potted plants and garden tools and misc stuff (BIG umbrella, Chuck's camping table and poles, a huge wrench left over from some plumbing task decades ago, the 12" TV - back to check Direct TV in the library (their old bedroom - 20' wide) and misc loose stuff including my KitchenAide mixer. Friday I had a $1000 60,000 mile check-up on the truck and then got new tires. Chuck had Dueller A/T Revos (All Terrain) and they looked hot. My tires COULD have gone for at least another 10,000 miles if not 20,000 BUT having hydroplaned all over the grapevine-------. I got them too - Revos - at WheelWORKS - Insured - $962. I am so good about spending money ------. These things grab the street and HANG ON - of course - panic stopping on the freeway will lock your wheels------ tried that. I pulled in to the house at San Diego close to 8PM - planning on collapsing in front of the 52" set and watching the NCIS show - and the street was strangely dark. So was the house------ uh oh. After fumbling with a couple of candles - and a flashlight - I used 411 to get SDG&E on the phone - because I had already checked my breaker box in the pitch dark. I also checked - yes - I paid them. They said - MAJOR problem - equipment damage - 600 homes affected (and one street light) - 1AM at the earliest. LOVELY. They also said - UNPLUG EVERYTHING not on a surge protector (like the brand new TV and the G5 computer). So I threw surge protector breakers into OFF mode all over the place. I had to manually lift the garage door - now have to manually reclose it and figure out how to make it work auto again (yanking the cord is NOT helping). I could not unload in the dark (PITCH BLACK) - broke my rule of activity after long sitting confinement. I called CHUCK - yes - mother is alive - and guess what??? ha ha. I had dinner at Fudrucker's (CHUCK said to) and bought a portable AM/FM radio and a ton of Christmas candles (on sale). This took two stores - no shit. At 10:30PM I went back to my dark cave - stars are pretty - and saw a line of SDG&E trucks - including one on the back of a wrecker ----. I lit them (candles) ALL in the family room but decided - nope - need to be in bed - couch ain't not doing it. I kept the radio on and 2 pillar candles lit all night once I had made it to my bedroom. I was not sleeping - which means MacDonald's gave me REAL coffee instead of decaf again. Tests show that they do that------. It was 2AM when the power slammed back on. Literally. Got me up. Suffice it to say - I had not slept - hence - I will be a mess today. Great day to call those contractors that half-assed their jobs - well - they did 95% anyway - except the fence guys. -------------------------------- I also love it when someone calls me about my resume while I am driving 80 MPH on 5! Someone also called me while we were crawling under the truck to check the shocks WheelWorks thought were leaking. Not jobs I would take anyway. I want San Diego. Hope we get the UHAUL truck next Monday - trip is getting OLD. |
