Rolling Stumps
2006 Story Set
| Date: January 22, 2006
I brought 3 redwood stumps down this time from Fremont - HUGE round stumps (BEAUTIFUL!!!!) and 5 rolls of 5 x 9 ft Berber carpet from the house - since it was an expensive Berber carpet - until the painter painted all the edges in every damn room - and I am a Connecticut Yankee and can't see the waste!
Had them cut it up in pieces for weight equipment (and computer chairs - which mark the laminate floor).
Packed the truck it did.
The rocking chairs are holding a piece down in the living room.
One goes to my office.
One under the chair at the computer in the family room, and two go under weight equipment in the library.
I got the ONE piece of carpet into the living room (needs pad, edging but it works!)
The other 4 are now standing in the garage because I was overheated (sweating) and am not to go that far until I have the echo done to rule out a heart condition. Pant gasp.
A big piece of carpet we haven't figured out how to load - would go on the floor of the garage - which will eventually be unloaded and used as another outside room and there is the back deck - to be enclosed as a 3-season room. I could use it there too. Next load? Who knows.
Now comes removing the logs from the truck.
First - I FOUND the missing piece of the camper shell and screwed the two misbehaving screws in TIGHT - so there!
I was SOOOO annoyed when that fell apart! SNUGTOP!!!!!!
I had pulled out the outdoor carpet - to dry and lay flat (goes into truck to protect my knees from the bed liner).
I use an exercise foam pad to protect my knees at the moment - need both!
I climbed into the truck - in a tank top, jeans and slip-ons.
I reached for the first big fat round log (Chuck had loaded for me) (I cannot lift them even on a good day).
I rolled it over the truck door (Tacoma TRD - high truck) .
To the ground.
PLOP!
Where the stupid thing decided to roll like mad down the driveway and headed for the street (I live at the top of a steep hill).
(Oh yeah Chuck - they don't roll ---- MUCH!)
I jumped out of the truck bed - loosing a shoe - and ran to stop the sucker - which had made it to the street --------.
The neighbor got a show (braless, one shoe on - one off - Clorox-splattered brown jeans, streaked hair flying, decidedly overweight and jiggling).
It is settled in the front yard now.
Later I will move the van and haul them one at a time to the back yard - or the dog pen - using the soft-wheeled dolly. (My wheels are always flat---)
The two others in the truck were jammed together.
Took a little tugging and squirming and my poor knees left the pad.
Finally - it rolled out and down - and fortunately hit the carpet rolls that I hadn't moved out of the driveway yet - and flopped sideways to its flat side and stopped.
The third one also had to be tugged and pulled and tossed - I put it further up into the front yard.
The redwood stumps (which will eventually decompose into lovely mulch - make lovely barricades in this HUGE lot and hold potted plants up away from the dog (who when pissed has been known to dig up my pots) and block her from chewing on the fence easily - and keep her from digging out from under the fence and just look damn nice.
I have hauled a lot of them down so far - maybe 1-2 more loads? I have to have help loading them now. I got all the ones I could LIFT!
I will rest now that the truck is unloaded.
Ranger the cat just stares at me - having made a few attempts to get out of the garage.
He was so glad to have me home - drove me nuts all night.
Had to really pet him hard, cuddle him, feed him, step on him a few times ---.
Trim - after hysterics all morning (until I fed her and brought her back in) is in her dog bed hiding
I sat outside with her earlier - she sat on the swing - under the swing - in front of the swing (and got hit in the head a few times)
whined and fussed until I shoved her into her pen.
Oh that helped.
She leapt and whined and went crazy - I went in the house.
Fried her egg. And mine.
Put her egg out.
Let her loose into the yard.
She fussed and whined some more - finally ate - did her thing - so I brought her back in.
SPOILED BRAT DOG! (Smart and determined Border Collie)
I have no idea what she will do once I go to work - If I go to work.
I'm thinking - earn back what I spent on the house - drop the price accordingly on Fremont and dump it.
Pepper said high 700s - Lord!
But I want to be mortgage-free and retired to full time writing.
Calling dr's office in the AM - scheduling Echo (Up by Stanford).
Need to touch base with painter and general contractor Monday as well
Time to paint house - gut kitchen.
I think I am finally "up"
Don't know what I did to break the cycle of depression - but I am definitely moving forward.
Probably because I decided time to sell the book - Touched by a Cross - and get his story out there.
