Na Na Na Na Na (use the tune)

2007 Story Set

Date: June 30, 2007
After returning to work as a contractor in 2002 (November 19 to be exact)
      - I had the fun of buying a big G5 tower
With a flat screen I could actually LIFT - (21") - and my younger son
Had reminded me - buy the best you can afford - "like you taught us"
So I did - and got him a few more Mac toys too (his speakers could rattle the garage doors) and I also bought a Toshiba 17" PC (runs like a workhorse - best PC I ever used).
      Shortly thereafter ---

My older son's employer - bought my older son a BIGGER FASTER G5 tower than I had acquired on my own
- and gave him a 36" monitor (which takes TWO video cards to drive)
- (which is --- actually too big)
- which let him go na na na na na mine's bigger!

He runs their servers from his living room - this is the concept of an "on-call" employee.
You NEVER get away from work - he lives less than a mile from the office.
Even if sick - he can check the network - solve problems - and go back to bed.
Hate to say it, but when he was about 6, I was working at a defense contractor in Mass. (running the firmware teams on the Militarized VAX - remember the VAX?) and since kids could NOT enter a defense contractor environment, and occasional ear infections kept him from the day care center, I had a terminal direct wired to the office (and another VAX) - 1 mile away and could run my department from my dining room table on those rare days ---
This is probably when I got used to working at the computer at 6AM in nighty and bare feet, sipping coffee and catching up on email, reports, etc. (Try 1982!) (no iCam)

Can't say the concept is a NEW one exactly.

Well - his manager just gave him a new MacBook - bigger and faster than my new baby 12" 1-year old MacBook!
na na na na na again!
      NOT FAIR!
      Mommy needs to win sometimes!
He's promised to help me set up my baby to run Open Office (which is evidently strange on the Mac - don't know why)
      - My MacBook so far only does eMail and only when plugged into the DSL line in SanDiego.
      $2000 to do eMail
      I am a nut!
      Oh well -----

"Whoever dies with the most toys wins"
Why should it be a man???
