Fires on the Freeway

Date: October 22, 2008

      I drove thru the fires of I don't know what yesterday (Interstate 5 at Carlsbad truck fire) and got home - exhausted - wired - mostly exhausted. I unloaded - dog - cats - stuff. I unloaded the ice chest.
      I stumbled around in a coma - sorting myself out somewhat.
      But basically, I took a very hot shower (very hot) and put on a flannel nightgown. Seems I was shaking and shivering.
      Low blood sugar!
      I grabbed a bowl of Cheerios and low-fat milk - with some sugar instead of Sweet & Low.
      Better.
      Later (much later) I managed to fix a hamburger patty (1/3 lb Harris Ranch patty) with - gasp - choke - a slice of American REAL CHEESE!
      Wow!

      I had eaten a hard boiled egg for breakfast - one on the road - and the last when I got home.
      Protein.
      Also easier to carry than raw eggs.
      A Medifast bar and way too much decaf coffee - plus one bottle of Starbuck's Lite Mocha had fueled the long, long, long drive.
      Next Sig-Alert - I will go sit on the sofa - put the animals back in the house and wait it out!
      If I had left at 10-11AM - I would have sailed thru LA faster instead of ending up in the mess of the accident at its worst - followed by arriving in Orange Country at 8AM! Heart of rush hour!
      I had almost done that wait and see thing --- should have - got back to work today and no one needed me so I wasn't missed.
      I did cancel out on the Adobe 9 Pro meeting - because --- I couldn't see myself riding BART (wanted to learn how actually) and going to SF at NIGHT - and possibly eating out (I seldom do) and then getting home late (My cat would eat me). Not on top of the commute from hell the day before.

      To make matters even more fun --- ANOTHER truck - a double or tandem tanker hit a passenger car that was in the Median (can we say driver weaving in the lane and managed to hit someone that wasn't even on the freeway----) GASOLINE truck it was - 8600 gallons of gasoline up in flames.
This was North of me - they expect to have to re-pave that section of freeway since the asphalt will be melted.

      I had oatmeal for breakfast --- and I just had a good sized (mostly lettuce) salad with fat-free dressing. I have a bar for later. Special K Protein - and a Cappuccino Medifast protein shake - which I will fix in a moment. Trying to get back on track.

      Of course - I had shopped for a lot of groceries in San Diego (cheaper because of preferred card and sales) and I had grabbed several bags of Stem and Fresh - whatever - from Birdseye - the one with veggies and rice in them - they are incredibly good and make a nice meal.

      I left them --- IN SAN DIEGO. Keeping two houses sorted is sometimes difficult.

      Ah well.
