Getting Up with Good Intensions

2008 Story Set

November 16, 2008

Getting up on a Sunday - late of course - hair flying - cat nagging - I made an effort to clean up the kitchen. The house needs a "holiday" cleaning - you know - how you clean when you expect company.

I am an inveterate reader and I would rather read than eat, a choice I may have to make as I face the bleakness of this current economy.

I have a job until March 31, 2009 - sort-of. I may take extra days without pay. I may end up with a 4-day work week. Or I may pool those days and spend a week every month in San DIego unpacking and unloading that house. Or something.

But this is Sunday, the day of good intentions and good resolutions. I have bills to write out and a budget to fuss over, a dog to medicate, laundry to do, clothing to wash or hang up (I brought a few winter things BACK from San Diego - have not determined what is RETURNING to San Diego).

There is something about Sunday morning that has me cleaning the kitchen in my nightgown. I don't know why. I have a counter that gleams now, the dishwasher is loaded and the sink empty, and I am eyeing the juicer - which IS being returned to San Diego. Since I am technically not to eat fruit (Medifast) I sort-of stalled making the apple juice until I finally cleaned out the fridge. So - it has no function up here.

I drank tea- not coffee - decaf or otherwise - but I will make a pot of Vanilla Nut Decaf in my new pot.

I washed the sink.

I put things away.

I took my pills - including setting up and opening the ones I bought yesterday still in their bag on the floor.

I made a note to call Andy and get the toilet repair finished. One shoots water out the side and did until I got real curious how I was dripping water on the floor without a washcloth and while trying not to. I had thought I was just splashing when washing my face! Nope!

The other is fixed, but the valve was replaced under the sink and the lexical is blocking the drawer from closing.

Besides, I need to do this while I still have income.

Social Security starts in April (my call). My job MAY end March 31. Depends on things. Than I will have a choice - food and pills or pay the mortgage. Lovely. After 43 years working I am reduced to this!

Meanwhile, I am contemplating the pile of clothing and the laundry and eyeing that stack of books I want to read. I read Twilight - I liked it - then I looked at the descriptions of the rest of the series - not so good on the reviews and I don't like where the story goes. And I am not a YA - young adult. But I did like this book and if I had a daughter, sure, she'd read it with my blessing (13 and up). I still would like to see the movie - the wizard from Harry Potter playing the vamp. Hilarious.

After the layoffs this past week - I survived round #3 - I was shattered - so my son took me to see Quantum of Solace - oh my Word! I have watched Daniel Craig (a BRITISH actor - you know - he can ACT) for years on PBS (watch the Ice House - it's at Amazon on VHS. In the UK it's on DVD.)

I was exhausted after it! I LOVED IT! I was not a James Bond fan - after all - why would women get excited over a man who cats around? But the catting was minimal and that scene where he's rescuing the women (near the end) and he's pointing a gun (looks like mine) while shielding her (oh my Lord - come shield me!! me!!! me!!) - wow! I LOVE his interpretation of the character.

The only comment - the action went SO FAST that I had trouble tracking HIM - so when I get the DVD I will just have to watch it a zillion times. (Guys! The camera stuff is fun but not when you obscure the action - in other words - we aren't there to be impressed with how fast you can swing a camera - or how "MTV-old-style" you can edit! Take notes!)

OK - I have the hots for Daniel. I am on HRT after all----

But I still have to go do the laundry. And , of course, must watch the 4-hour (?) The Ice House again. (lost count).
