Sometime back I found that undelivered missive from the IRS blabbing about how my 2006 return was wrong? [It isn't.]
Well, I contacted Opportunixx at that time and raised the roof. [3rd party contractor manager.]
They had - in their misguided way - thru Paychex - which is NOTORIOUS - filed an incorrect W2 (employee) tex form when I was in fact a 1099 (contractor)
True - I was hired at my present company to be 6 months contract-to-hire but I was not hired at the end of 6 months because --- I was too old. They told me so.
I am not likely to forget that! (I have been with them over 3 years so far - and am now an authorized vendor.)
Opportunixx/Paychex had blindly switched me to a W2 for one pay period at the 6 month anniversary without consulting me!
The error was easy to spot - they had withheld taxes (and soc sec) - from a check that should not have any withholding.
Shit hit fan.
The next paycheck- they gave me back all the wrongly withheld money. I had agreed that would be fine.
I never in my wildest dreams considered that they would continue down the road of oblivious behavior.
I filed, at tax time, the 1099 - which was checked and did have the correct number on it. I have meticulous records. I get audited often - and never owe anything.
Opportunixx (thru Paychexx) filed the 1099 AND they filed the incorrect and invalid W2 - because they do sloppy record-keeping. [They admitted this to the IRS - in writing - back in January.]
The IRS, searching for anything they can get their little hands on, latched onto this anyway and decided I owed them taxes and penalties and such.
This latest missive shows they got money from somewhere------- but I still had a balance due.
We haven't figured that out. Where they got money. Not from me! That is a bit suspicious!
They also claim I haven't contacted them.
I gave my CPA Power of Attorney and HE had contacted them.
Opportunixx has contacted them.
They claim nada. And sent a payment coupon. (pessimistic they are not) (pig-headed - yes.)
Silly buggers.
I am now on the bloody warpath.
An error on their part is one thing, a continued F-Up and oblivious LACK OF cross-department communication is another. I have a copy of the form withdrawing the W2 as an error. I have the letter of explanation. How come they don't have it????
I am now out for blood.
I want someone fired.
I want them to write a letter appologizing for their crap.
I want my record cleared.
I want to send them an invoice------- for my time. I am expensive.
As I am sure they are well-aware.
God knows I pay enough taxes that I owe - I don't need to pay extra!
Here's the letter from Opportunixx: [Feb 7, 2009]
The W2 sent to the IRS for 2006 with reported earnings was an error.
Opportunixx pointed this out to PayChex before it was sent to the IRS, and
that is why a W2 was not sent to you. Opportunixx used PayChex because it
was a reputable fortune 500 company, and probably the largest payroll
company in the US. We entrusted them to make the proper payments to the
employees and to the government. Paychex currently services over 500
thousand customers. We believed and still believe they are a trustworthy
company.
Unfortunately, someone at PayChex got sloppy and did not follow up
as they needed in making sure that the correct forms were sent to the IRS.
However, they are sending the corrected forms now, and a copy of the form
that they are sending to the IRS is attached to this email. This matter
should not require any action on the part of your lawyer or accountant to
resolve with the IRS, since PayChex has agreed to resolve it. You should
get a letter from the IRS that the matter has been resolved and if you don't
please let us know.
Thanks
