And the Beat Goes On

2000

Well, the new server provider (iServerpros) has transferred five of the six domains over - by Monday I should be back on-line. And by Monday we can get MantaRay-Photography transferred as well. Somehow it got dropped.
Meanwhile, back at Verio, they have yet to successfully transfer the eBooks-n-Stuff domain - which must transfer before I can get the software. Maybe I can get a refund for this month since the account is unusable.
I have a habit of complaining and bitching - well, discussing, just about anything. I learned that this is a good thing. It is a good thing because women, unlike men, think while they are speaking and as they talk about a problem, like as not the solution begins to percolate in their head. In parallel with the complaining and discussing.
Women's brains do work differently. We parallel process. Men, bless their hearts, are very serial.
So, because I talk and ask, and know no fear, I found the name of someone who can either help me with the fulfillment issue or will be able to direct me elsewhere. And I may have all 20,000 books shipped to their warehouse - where I can pick up a few 100 when I need to go to a show. Cheaper than Banta's deal? Don't know yet.
And someone else has a brother who knows about Ingrams - distribution - and Amazon.com. I also have input from my stockbrocker's mother. She did a book - successfully - actually did several - and dragged them to shows and went to bookstores and finally got an advance on another one. Just what I had in mind.
So I will get inside advice (Amazon is a black hole according to one input) and find out what I am up against.
"It's a nasty business." is the general consensus.
Well, it may be, but I am in for a pound having spent my penny.
And I have something in my favor.
I am also doing an eBook - I may get a human at Adobe to actually answer the phone.
And that item Amazon.com can deal with. Very well. And the Trekkies, my audience, are computer literate for the most part, so it fits.
And with any luck at all, so can I [handle it] when the commercial page is on-line.
I may ask Steven King what service he used. I misplaced the Newsweek article.
That is, if I can't do this on my Mac. (Generate the WebKey.)
It would be nice if I can (although the software is $5,000), because then I could do the calendar of the month - a one-month photo calendar (Troy) you could download for $1.00. Of course, Adobe gets a cut and the merchant bank gets a cut - but you don't do taxes on a e-book. And you don't need a warehouse. And there are no shipping charges. Tres simple! AT least compared to paperbacks.
Heavens! I could do the whole calendar in eBook format!
        Boggles the mind.
        Full speed ahead. Don't blink.
(So what if I have to work an extra year or two to recover from this mad extravagance.
By then the stock market may have settled.
Or I may have to sell my shoes.)
The new StarLog (June 2000 issue) came out - and the ad has the right color.
        See?
        Things are looking up!
