Oh I can sew - when I want to. And I enjoy
it. So why is it that when I went to make a dress for my date with Fabio
this week that I became incompetent?
I made two dresses - size 16 - for practice
- because my weight has stayed the same for months.
I am 38-34-38 at 5'5" - too much waist - down
from 44 - 48 - 42. But not the 34-24-34 I used to be!
I wear a B/C cup - down from D/DD.
A size 16 is better than 18 or 20 or 1X.
I wear a Medium/small top, depending on the
style.
It's the waistline that is the problem.
And I had this down once! I thought!
My doctor (one of them) has "plans" for this
problem.
In the meantime, I struggle along.
I can't keep my hands off of chocolate (semi-sweet
morsels by the handful) or ice-cream (one or two tablespoons). If my son
leaves chips and dip in my face I will sample them (not much - 4-6 chips).
But I am way down in portion sizes. I stopped
most of my baking. I skip fruit. Veggies and protein is the main part
of the diet. I drink a lot of water.
And I am hungry most of the time.
I am working out - hard! 75-90 minutes three
times a week. Sweating. Exhaustive.
I leg lift 235 lbs. I pull up 50-60 lbs. on
the dipper. I Dorsi Flex 75 lbs (back machine).
I do abs up to 86 lbs. at 12 reps and cycle
three times. I spend 30-45 minutes on the treadmill.
My hairdresser thinks I have great legs.
So does my plastic surgeon.
My trainer says I am very strong.
Not bad for an old bat of 58!
But no movement in the weight!
And now they tell me it's the thyroid again!
So they raised it to .2 and will test me in two months. Maybe by then
my fingernails will have stopped shredding. (That was the tell-tale clue.)
That also means the estrogen and all the other
stuff is screwed up too!
Which would help explain the derailed weight
loss.
So of course I didn't get to size 14 for the
date with Fabio (my goal).
I did make two dresses for practice (on in
wool and one stretchy) in size 16 that fit.
So I valiantly cut out the expensive special
ordered black satin-backed crepe - in size 16.
Except it has a tightly fitted waist - and
I don't.
If I had been focused I would have straightened
out the curve at the waistline.
But I was thinking about the things I still
need to get done for Jettison and my writing.
And thinking about my son's stitches and biopsy.
And wondering what on earth I am doing.
I put the top together - zipper and all -
ouch!
Breathing is not allowed!
Angry at myself for not paying closer attention,
I raced to the store and bought another pattern (size 18), different dress,
also one-shoulder, and more fabric (velvet and crepe). I also bought the
two Regency gown patterns from Butterick - for November.
I cut out the second dress.
I sewed its top.
Yikes!
Also a custom pattern, it is SKIN TIGHT! Looks
spray-painted.
Beautiful (I will finish it) but not what
I want. (A little TOO!) Maybe by November.
I had extra satin-backed crepe and I recut
4 of the 6 panels for the top of the first dress. I am real good with
a seam ripper.
I straightened out the waist.
It fits. Snugly.
It is self lined - if I ever see that on another
pattern I will not buy it!
That means you make the top TWICE (12 pieces)
and stitch them together.
I prefer facings.
I put it together.
Tacked the princess seams.
Pressed and tested.
Don't breathe much!
I attached the bottom - another 6 pieces -
flipped over to crepe side out (top is satin side out).
The new strapless bra from Victoria is just
barely covered on the dropped side.
No room for a slip (doesn't need one).
Or a girdle.
Thigh tops!
Mandatory!
A lot of me showing (one shoulder design).
And the toning is making a difference.
If I lost weight with the muscles I have it
would look really, really good.
However......
I will have to do.
I have a black velvety drape cape stole.
My hair is long and dark.
I have 4" heels. Sling backs. Hooker heels.
I have big gold Joan Rivers and Nolan Miller
jewelry.
I model this outfit for my almost-nineteen
year old son.
He says, looking me up and down, "Needs a
slit."
It didn't have one.
Does now.
Right up to the thigh-tops.
Said I was good with a seam ripper!
