Scheduling the Date - With Fabio of Course!

2001

June 26, 2000

I thought I had this whole procedure down pat.
I've done it before after all.
So when we had trouble getting the date set for the "date" with Fabio, I was patient.
We finally narrowed it down to the month of June.
Well - I was in the middle of doing the calendar for Troy - and running into delays and hassle. And trying to get Amazon books shipped, and paperwork done for other people.
        I hadn't planned on bookstores. On distributors. I'm a web-baby! I am swamped.
Banta and I are dancing around fulfillment (I am shipping from the garage).
I know what dress I want to make.
I ordered the fabric special - black satin back crepe.
It's somewhere loose in the house.
        Somewhere.
First - I had to move the date - because of the calendar project.
Which made Troy happy (happy that I put off Fabio for him).
I just didn't have time to sew!
Second - the guy who has handling this date left the charity and the "package" got passed off to someone "filling in". That took a few calls. Basically, every other week I'd "check in".
I made contact with Eric (Fabio's manager) and got a time - not 30 days notice as requested - only 15!
        Eeeek!
So much for going to San Diego to see the Del Mar Fair!
So much for an early check on the tenants who are to leave the house at the end of the month.
I called the charity - they are all "At a conference" until NEXT WEEK!
        Whoa! That won't work!
I sputtered a little bit - hey, wait a minute! I need directions! Organization! Planning! People magazine!
At this they relented - Oh yes - the admin can help you.
        Great.
She comes on - and she says - "Oh! I am just doing that now!"
        OK
        "I'll call you back"
        OK
So now she comes on (hours have passed) - "We have the limo - where do you want to be picked up?"
        Excuse me?
        Did I hear that right?
Well, what hotel are you putting me in?
Well, no body had told her about that part!
Or about my needing a plane ticket.
Could have been a LONG LIMO RIDE! (Try 6.5 hours at 75MPH.)
I can call SuperShuttle and have them meet me at LAX and get me to the hotel -
        where ever it is.
But I need advance warning. I need a flight number. Help me!
And they have reservations at someplace on the beach for 8PM dinner.
(Make a bet we do Cafe Roma!)
I asked again - "What's in the "date package"?"
        Because I have NO IDEA!
They just waved Fabio in front of me and I went off the deep end!
They don't know either - so I don't know about my hair!
Do I get it done? Or let my son's friends have at it? It needs thinning. Just a tad. It's Burgundy again. Needs to be deeper mahogany with burgundy streaks.
Or is this just dinner and a limo ride?
        Or what?
You know I will forgo the ride to sit there and get the 25-30 questions answered.
I'll sit next to that gorgeous hunk anytime!
        But my dress is unmade.
I don't plan to sit there in my underwear. (That could only be interesting if I were younger and thinner!)
I need film for the camera. And a battery check.
I am definitely not put together!!!!!
        Stranger and stranger!
I am trying not to be frazzled.
I'm picking colors for the months.
        Adding Troy's birthday.
        Cutting the zip disks.
Packing up the bundle for the printer.
        And keeping my head down.
Right behind this I have to lay out the ad for the September issue of Romantic Times.
The ad for the calendar no less!
I asked RT to have a little mercy.
Give me a few more days.
I need to make a dress.
