| 17.1 PDF - tried and true and around
for ages 06:48pm Nov 28, 2000 PDF (mac unix NT pc whatever) works just fine, you don't need a server to generate it, and if your book is in WORD, QUARK, or whatever, you can get anything to PDF - fast! Anyone with any of the leading platforms and operating systems can read it. Browsers even support it. PDF Merchant is a nice idea for control of IP - but without a service bureau that can take my PDF and give me back the files I need to load on my own website - it will have to wait! It will also have to wait for Adobe to bother to answer the phone! I self-published JETTISON - a sci-fi adventure - action - romance and a matching Extreme Troy 2001 (Troy is on the cover of JETTISON and has just been voted Mr. Romance 2000 and Reader's Choice for a cover model) and now I want to do a eBook version - in chapter segments and in total book format. I also want to do the calendar (a 12x12.5" wall format beauty) in monthly downloadable units. Sneering at the Self-Published? I am a regular publisher according to Ingram, Amazon.com, and Borders/Waldenbooks, and soon Barnes&Noble will get a submission. Advertised for 1 year, the book has received rave reviews. (www.JettisonSaga.com) Sample Review: "I was finally able to get my copy of Jettison and have enjoyed it thouroughly. When I came back to the store I placed an order for 5 copies of the book. It sold in 2 days and I've ordered more. [Waldenbooks] Having grown up as a fan of Star Trek, I always wanted to read stories of Captain Kirk and Spock but the si-fi books that are out there are to technical for me. Jettison was perfect. It had a bit of romance as well. And of course having Troy as the image of Captain Daniels in my mind was not hard to take. Thank you for some wonderful hours of escape, Cindi Streicher Waldenbooks Greenfield, Wi 53221 " The Extreme Troy calendar got 5 stars at Amazon. Both were best-sellers at the Romantic Times Booklover's Convention. PDF can handle both projects in mere minutes. Using the same "you give us a credit card then you can download" mentality that software distributors use, almost anyone can become an ePublisher. Why don't we? I've published countless user manuals, reference manuals, application notes and presentations in PDF - thousands of pages in multiple source formats. I've taught 3-day technical classes using presentation files saved to PDF. It works. It has never occurred to me to use anything else! |
