Last Man Standing

2000

Sunday August 13, 2000
I did not do the gym today - I weed-whacked instead. And then I lifted the rolled on a dolly the new 24" bathroom cabinets and their counter tops. I already have the faucets.
Now to hook up with the plumber.....
And I swabbed down the pool - now empty and unplugged - I need to get its chlorine and stuff because I ran out and water got in the tester so the testing sticks are off.
        Probably need a new filter.
All that moving (rolling redwood logs around to weed-whack under them) and bending and twisting - I was stiff from yesterday's hauling stuff out of the driveway and pruning a few branches from next door (hangs over and is dirty).
And shampooing the hall (can still see the traffic pattern although the spot is up - hated that spot - washed it a dozen times - it's gone now!
That is an exercise in itself - because you have to haul the container out to dump it. And drag the head back and forth with vigor.
So I am here at the hospital - reading over my seminar for tomorrow - and finding little glitches - of course - including a blank page where 1-14 belongs....And fretting over typing errors.
And they decide that he might have a murmur in his heart and he might have air leakage in the lung, His heart is racing and he is having trouble breathing.
For the air leakage they will have to put a tube back into his chest (the morning x-ray looked OK - they have to wait on the new one). [It was fine.]
They x-ray him right in his bed no less - service right to the bedside.
And the EKG - roll right up to the bed - with equipment from HP! One of Synopsys' customers.
        It looks OK too.
He had a little extra beat - probably from the fever that has returned yet again (part of the fungal assault) and the vomiting.
I give up trying to get liquid into him (they say that he is getting enough). If he can't keep it down then we cannot strain him. On the other hand, his throat is still raw from surgery and sweet stuff (like tea and honey) would sooth it.
        He whispers.
We are watching TV - some USA show about people trying to stay standing and touching a truck - for DAYS. Would any truck be worth that?
Maybe for a Hummer! Or a Tundra! When they get the gas mileage up a bit! 8 MPG is not very good these days! And no Firestone tires.
I guess I lost the Acapulco heat press kit - I downloaded the graphics - the Fabio photo - same as the mouse pad - was not in good shape - and the rest of the stuff featured too much of the other people. I would be interested in seeing the bio they released for Fabio but I bet it's the same as the one I already have. I have that show on tapes someplace. The opening was cute - Fabio on a cell phone.
Long flowing hair. I enjoyed it!
I have had a break and now must return to the chip review (half way through the new material).
Hope I can hold it all together tomorrow. It's the Alpha class for Advanced chip Synthesis (more like Advanced chip Integration).
The contractor will come to move the woodpile to the back yard - on the fence rather than against the house because the city complained. Like mine is the only house that needs attention. Actually, mine is pretty neat compared to the dump across the street. This is an old run-down area of Fremont. But if I were moving in today - I couldn't afford to live here. The prices are ridiculous. Wish I could retire and sell this one - it would pay off the one in San Diego. My plan anyway. What is ironic is that the spa and the bed and the tree stumps were headed for San Diego if my son had been able to leave home. What timing!
And I found a hornet's nest - up on the eve of the house. They can't blame that on my wood pile!
Long distance spray will be applied. When I am well dressed. Very well dressed!
The side gate works by bulldozing it open with your shoulder (I chiseled with a screw driver and a hammer to open it). And closes with a few hammer blows. My son had tied it up when the post gave way. I need a 2x4 and a few nails and I can fix it so it works. Good. I need the gate working so I can haul debris out when I prune trees.
I picked cucumber and squash from the front yard today - along with tomatoes (plum tomatoes). I had a pepper but it blossom-rotted - but I have two more growing. The corn is doing well too. A few (6) ears.
And not to be outdone - a giant pumpkin vine is winding its way around the rose bush on the backyard - happily growing in the rabbit droppings where the cage had been. I move the rabbits every 6 months or so - to where we need good soil. The worms come along with the droppings - big red worms that work the soil real good.
I don't know if we set pumpkins yet - the record one year was 17. We got tired of carving them! Most were classed as BIG pumpkins. I think my son had gotten his fill. I don't have that many plants growing this year.
I tried to start beans - no luck in the peat pots. Somehow I've never been good with that. I will stick some seeds in shortly and see what comes up.
My older son likes the smell of my little garden. I had him up cleaning out the driveway. Too bad. I wanted to call in a work day when I moved stuff to the storage unit. Oh well. I discovered that I cannot move the big spa without about three guys helping! How we moved it into the garage is beyond me! My older son said "Physics". I'm trying to remember what grade he got. I got a B.
I like the taste of my tomatoes and the firmness of a young-off-the-vine cucumber. The ones with the little spiny things still on them.
Perfection. I had them for lunch.
        Simple joys.
