Aftermath from Surgery

2000

I've been sound asleep on the bench on and off for hours.
Exhaustion. Set in after days of late nights and terror.
They gave him enough pain killer that he's sleeping.
        Tube comes out tomorrow.
I'm going to go on home now - hopefully before I go back to sleep again!
        Talk about tired!
        Yikes!
I did help give my baby a sponge bath and helped him void (takes two of us passing the urinals around - camel bladder). I just know he wants this part to be over.
And I helped him throw up (they added medication to stop nausea) - he is spitting up bloody clots - from down to tube and stomach - part of the mucositus.
Physical therapy came in and moved his legs around. I had asked about them before. His joints are swollen (from the fluids) and he keeps running fevers.
His neck muscles are so sore from the tube down his throat during surgery that he can't move his head - the nurse said from the fluid - no it isn't - it's from having his head back while they put tubes down his throat! They did that so they could collapse one lung, grab a piece and reinflate it.
His Xrays are good, drainage good so the tube comes out.
I told him - walk across the room, eat food, get iBook - he said that the carrot was to far away.
He's getting more blood now. Many, many transfusions.
I will need to figure out how to run a blood drive. Make donations in his name. Might be a useful thing to do. Might help someone else. I will ask about that.
