2001
| January 28, 2001 I skipped the gym today (end of month stuff) and stayed home to add a story and a recipe to the web. Then I rewound the mystery to die for - a Denzel & Pascoe mystery, after getting some new jewelry from Joan Rivers. I started winding a ball of yarn (clarion call to the cats) and cast on the two front pieces of the cardigan I am knitting myself (Homespun yarn, navy blue). - 5th sweater since my son was diagnosed. The ending of the show means that I will be late to get to the hospital for the pregame stuff. So what! I deserve a break. I knit and watch and fast-forward over the commercials. The ending left me shattered (I won't tell). Oh my! Thing about British TV - they are very, very good and they can twist things nicely, thank you. I jumped into sweats, tossed the washer stuff into the dryer, noted the temp on the furnaces and checked the animals. Then it was off to the groceries because he ordered junk food. Lots of it. Momma speed shopped. Sour cream dip, cheese salsa, popcorn, peanuts, frozen entries (he hates hospital food). Soda, juice, raw veggies, rolls. And then get to the hospital by 1:30. I walk from the Lucille Packard parking lot down the hall, way, way down the hall, lugging the mid-sized suitcase, stuffed to the gills, the 4 bags of cheese bouncing off the handles. It has rollers but the weight was way over the load allowance. Pulled on my arms something fierce. Who needs the gym? I alternated arms - even distribution, I could feel the burn. Must be the two bottles of sparkling cider and grape juice, the cans of soda, the bottle of salsa, the pound of sour cream, the rolls, and the Pringles. And, oh yes, four frozen food entries and a tray of cinnamon rolls. I was breathing heavy when I got to his room in rehab. My son pigs out. 1/2 the bottle of cider, 1/2 bottle of salsa, a frozen Lean Cuisine dinner, raw veggies - carrots, cucumber, celery, radishes and blue cheese dressing. We watch the commercials - bathroom breaks are in the game times normally - but this was an interesting game. Three touchdowns in 36 SECONDS! I like Ferggie's commercial (for Schwab) and EDS's the running of the squirrels. The visa ad (where she vacuums up the twit) is good. So is the one with the sleeping (and daydreaming) security guard. The best, and everyone agrees, is the bud light ad where the guy shakes up the bottle and sprays his date. Then my son bolted up in bed, no sound, but Momma, flopped down on a rollaway, knows. I jumped up and grabbed a bucket. He tossed his cookies but good. He didn't feel good Friday night or Saturday so I was waiting for this. Of course, here in rehab they cannot handle meds. I sent for Robitussin - they are not sure about that. I am. He said he choked on mucus. The rest was conditioned-response from his stomach. He had thrown up for three months straight - he's only been eating for two weeks.. He restarts eating - slower this time. Sweet roll, Pringles, Coca-Cola. I stuck perishable into the fridge. He wants salsa. It's nearly half time. He repeated this procedure of pig and purge so I sent for Benadryl. Third time was the charm. He went back to salsa and chips and we finished the game. I made him chicken noodle soup. Chunky style. He was fine. Surrounded by junk food. Back up meals in the fridge. I went home at about 10PM to nurse my sore arms. Also to treat my own upset stomach. Good game! |
