Waiting Waiting Waiting

2001

January 2, 2001
I went to work after having nearly two weeks off - the place was EMPTY.
No one, and I mean no one, came in before 10:30AM. Bby then I was packing to leave because my son was to have surgery.
I collected my wits, my computer and notes on CHIP - the new class I am updating.
I went to the hospital by 11AM - then they said - oh, the surgery is tomorrow. They want to put a camera down and check for ulcers, etc. because he can't stop throwing up.
I set up my NT from work and went to work.
What else was there to do?
All day we have been waiting for the CT scan (they tried to tell me they could be done at the same time - I didn't think so...)
He drinks Contrast - and throws it up. And remains NPO except for the contrast.
They want to see it in the intestines - oh, right! NOTHING gets out of the stomach in that direction!
We measure. What goes down - comes back up.
        BLANK WALL!!!!
I type, fetch urinols and fetch a wierd mix of contrast and soda or contrast and juice.
        Ugh! His reaction too.
I check my email while typing on the seminar. Actually, I get more work done here than I do at the office - the cubicle is noisier than the hospital room.
Eric is setting up a time for the date with Fabio -- Jan? Feb? -------my son is supposed to be home by Feb 1 - my mental target date - earlier - the hospital's take. We shall see. They are never right. My date for my son being home is wishful thinking on my part. So is my date with Fabio it seems.
The server hosting all seven of my websites crashed on the 28th of December and they couldn't find the back-up - so they loaded the state of the sites and counters as of November 26th. That's just lovely! SO I still have emails floating around about that. Because I am hiring the programmer to do the storefront for me by February sometime. Only a year behind schedule!
(I sent corrections in for the counters - guessed at numbers - to hell with it - record these and start tracking things from now on.)
My future commercial site ebooks-n-stuff.com is down altogether - need to check on that one [they were still pointing at Verio - needs to point to the new server].
Need to add a photo and fix the index page for Fabio. Saturday it had taken me five hours to recover the sites . I missed a few pieces.
I check and make a list.
        Ho hum.......
I have to file all kinds of paperwork to pay the taxes on the five books sold in California - all five of them. All my sales are out-of-state and to resellers.
        Another case for eBooks.
        They don't tax e-books yet.
I handle all the emails relevant to all of this and submit Unit updates for the seminar back to the office.
I even email to do lists from the hospital to the home computer.
I finally leave at midnight. I couldn't outlast the CT schedule. [They did it later at 1AM.]
The new pills I take help with the hips - I do not stagger as I get up from the chair after sitting for hours, I do not stumble out of the car.
I can put off hip replacement for years at this rate.
        Good!
Because I will do nothing until my son is OK.
Anyway - I'll be here tomorrow for the surgery.
And Friday is the MRI - they don't need me for that [actually they did it days later on the next TUESDAY -days late!]
Saturday the dog (Trim) gets shots
I think Ranger (the orange hellcat) is due too!
I drive home making mental to do lists.
These will add to the typed ones.
        WELCOME TO THE NEW YEAR
        Gasp, pant!
