My Writing Calls To Me

2001

May 8, 2001
Well, I haven't written my stories lately. I haven't even written long emails.
I am behind in making up the Fabio Fan Club email list. (Way behind!)
I am behind working on Merry Christmas, Molly!, my new regency story.
I am behind in moving my CMA account and getting my merchant account on-line.
My son has had methyl whatever and his portable IV flush and is skipping chemo this week because his counts are down. But he is perky. His hair is growing in (we pet him and explain that we are feeling for lumps). He is still in the wheel chair but more stable when he stands. He is on-line for HOURS! playing DoomII. Don't EVER tell me he can't read and can't study!
We are in rolling blackouts because the temperature is over 100 degrees. My truck chugs and chugs and doesn't put out cold air. Cool air is all I can hope for, after I am almost home. I need to get it checked. Ditto the van.
The van's radio started working Sunday - go figure that one out! Probably a loose wire that expanded in the heat.
The dog is fagged. The rabbit has been moved under a full-sized cherry tree that is attempting to bring forth cherries. It has done this one year in five.
The grass in the back yard is 2 feet deep. Green, but deep.
Two of three sprinklers are on automatic - the contractor never did get that third line back. The dog is busy digging up the little spruce trees I planted down the side - I want them to grow up and shade my bedroom wall. I am busy replanting them and putting bricks on them.
Trees I put in 5 years back produce a lot of shade in the yard - need to plant more!
One side yard is naked - unless you count 4' tall Calla Lilies - which will now proceed to fall over in the heat and die. Every year I cut them back, two or three trash cans full. Ditto the other lily-like thingys - I forget their name - they stick up those big balls of blue and white flowers. Also about 4' high.
I have tomato vines in and will get more lilies and veggies in.
And low and behold, the two big pumpkins that my son never got to carve up for last Halloween have sprouted! With a vengeance! And need to be transplanted to every spot I can think of. Side yard. Front yard. All around the back yard.
My kitchen floor needs to be sand-blasted. Perhaps with a sandblaster. Or a cat dipped in Chlorox. As does the cat pan. Must be garbage day again.
And just how far behind can I get? I haven't even read a book lately - well, except for the day I stayed home, stayed in bed, and removed myself from under the covers only for dire needs like feeding my child.
I am, in fact, writing so much at work that my arms swelled up. Charming! And the ergo people are busy. Can't get to me for weeks. Also charming!
Well, I work at home part-time for the benefit of my son so I type now mostly on the G4 Mac - until the wee hours of the morning.
Good thing since the motherboard in the NT quit on me - it would just shut down in the middle of whatever I was doing. Plus, it never did charge up a battery. And it is SLOW and the NT takes so many more keystrokes than a Mac to do ANYTHING!
        What am I writing?
I am dragging the Advanced CHIP Synthesis class into eLearning mode. It is a 3-day advanced high-tech training class. I had to write storyboards (what pages pop-up, etc.) I had to divide 581 pages into modular lessons. I had to write quizzes for the lessons. I had to write audio scripts. One person helped with that task. And between us we did a demo that will be free on the Vitalect website. It shows how a class from Synopsys will look.
I have two more classes to convert right behind it.
Now I am integrating all these files into a structure document - directions for assembly. Where to put the quizzes (dozens of them). Where to delete a page (all unit-oriented objectives). Where to branch to lab directions. Where to insert a page. etc. etc. etc.
I filled a 3" notebook. No wonder my wrists hurt!
The next class - I strongly recommend doubling my time schedule!
But the demo will be up by DAC (actually by May 23rd) and the class on-line by then as well, so I, my manager, her director, his vice president, all of us will get our bonuses.
        Egad!
I am trying not to end up on workman's comp!
Actually, when my arms start hurting, I get off, go rest, stop typing. I will not do permanent harm!
I NEVER had a problem until I had to use a PC at work. When I had Macs, I was always just fine thank you!
But now, as the crash and burn part of the project is nearing completion, my stories are calling to me. Molly is demanding that I finish her story. Amelia is getting impatient. Hellsfire, with some pages found, others still missing, is humming around in my head.
        And I just indulged.
        I hit Amazon.com with a vengeance!
I bought about a dozen books written from 1800-1900. Wives and Daughters started it. I ordered that video. I am a nut for authentic Regency and related time period stories.
And the stack is 3' high! Now to find the time. Maybe on those nights when I have insomnia due to stress.
Hmmmmmmmm. Gaskell and a glass of wine?
