2002 Story Set
|
June 22, 2001 First it was the dog and the cats. Two trips to PetCo and then two hose downs of cats, made necessary when the groomer chickened out of doing Ranger's bath. It was hose-down time for him too. With the attendant rub-downs for getting the majority of the water out of their fur. I must say, Little Bit does look better. Her colors are brighter. She vanished and I have no idea where she has gotten herself off to. (We never see her in the daytime. Or rarely see her. She shows up for food later in the day.) Ranger I wrapped up into a ball with a new bath towel and presented to my son, after my son said that the poor cat looked awful and whined about what I had done to his cat. Note that it is his cat at the moment but that it is my cat when the litter pan needs cleaning. My son sat there on his bed in his still-somewhat-clean room and rubbed the cat down some more. Ranger was more interested in food and his litter pan. The dog, clean after four baths, is resting in my son's room. Her fur is actually white. Four baths and a comb out with a lot of excess fur (from her spring shedding) were required. The bath tub was "full of dirt" said the groomer. Of course it was. There are dirt spots all over my carpet. And her sheepskin bed is positively black. I was thinking about hosing it down. Instead, I stared watering the front yard and cleaning off the driveway. Along the way I decided to drag the now extended front yard hose, after watering all the potted plants I have out front, around the garage and down the side of the house, hosing off the broken sidewalk and part of the sidewalk which is in the dog's domain. This takes time as she has dug up dirt and debris and I want to be able to walk down that side of the house, barefoot. I pick up the leaves I had already cut back the other day. I filled half of the recycle bin. I hosed and hosed. Finally, I ran out of hose. The back yard hose has to be dragged across the deck and down the other end of the side yard and I finish the job. I had been inspired to do this cleaning after sitting on the edge of the spa, motor running, dangling my legs in while I finished reading a Regency novel that had been a real slog. I had then sat in the porch swing that my older son had built for me and enjoyed it for a few minutes while my legs dried. I had folded three loads of laundry and run two more. I had put the folded clothes away. This is good because I had been sleeping under them for the last three days. I had run the dishwasher. Not that it doesn't need reloading. This is a daily occurrence since he wants 4-5 meals a day now that he is back working out. This is still setting me off as guys eat five meals a day and work out and lose weight and tone up while we women must starve, and workout to lose and hope we tone up something. And the men lose so much faster! So now, having contemplated this unfairness, I left the kid inside with the wet cats and I finished the side yard. I ran the sprinklers. I fed the child lunch and, because I was so exhausted, and because it is that time of the month when nuts, chocolate and red wine are demanded, I had a multi-grain toast- jelly - low-fat peanut butter sandwich. I was starving. Besides, it was now 2:30PM. Medifast was not going to cut it. It's OK as long as I behave to keep the count down. I want to because today I put on shorts that I had not fit into since I bought them last year! My weight went up that fast. It does that. I am currently focused on watching it go down however. I also had two prunes. My daily dose. Keeps dieters running smoothly you might say. We forgot the movies. My Mac G4 minitower decided that it was time for TechTools again. It tells me this by hanging itself. Eudora 5 hates DreamWeaver 4. I finished resurrecting my computer, checked email and uncrossed my eyes long enough to go ask the kid about the movies. I don't think I am up to Minority Report today. I have a dress or two to make. But first, a nap. After which I dutifully made chicken and burned it, scraped off the burn stuff and cooked it again in Lite Peaches. I think the real sugar stuff is better. I ate the burned crust stuff which was fried chicken, olive oil and fruit juice. It was pretty good. (Not burned so much as ran out of fluid and was really, really brown.) I also made biscuits. I had a small serving of unbrowned chicken and peaches and one small biscuit. Small because normally a 2-Cups of flour biscuit recipe makes about 4 BIG biscuits and I made a 1 Cup of flour version and made four small biscuits. I served this with diet soda. My son devoured his (three of the biscuits), while preparing for hot sauce and Triscuits. I made him wait for those. That can be meal number 5. I am stuffed. And I am content. Let tomorrow be Medifast Day. |
