| January 5, 2002 This is the poem that came with the Devil Duckie----- Devil Duckie, you're the one You make bath time lots of fun. Devil Duckie, I'm awfully dirty today. (Woh, woh, bee day) [don't ask me - I'm just copying this!] Devil Duckie, when you float, It's like I'm bathing in a flaming moat! [With foaming bubbles?] Devil Duckie, you're my very best friend, hooray! [Oh dear!] (Doo, doo, doo, dee day!) Every day when I Make my way to get clean I find a little fella who's Red and yellow and mean. (Rub-a-dub-keen!) Devil Duckie, you're so swell You guide me to the path to hell. [Ok - this lost me!] Devil Duckie, I'm awfully dirty--- Devil Duckie, you're a naughty birdie Devil Duckie, I'm awfully dirty today. Bad poem! The Devil Duckie was made in China for Accoutrements and the poem (?) is obviously suffering a bit in the translation - something like the horrid translations one finds in the Japanese-designed video games - which are, in themselves, notorious for the murder of the English language. It is not limited to Japan. English just confuses people. The result is called "Engrish" - yep - there is even a new word for it. That's the name that has been given to this butchery. Examples can be found in street signs and advertisements in Japan and China and even in America in "new arrival" communities. Tech TV recently ran a special showing the top worst language clips from the games. I really loved the game where the lead character was looking for "sailors" everywhere he went! (Huh?
