Day 10 Thursday April 25, 2002
Chemo Day
I believe we have to leave by 7:45 AM for
the hospital - this is our early day I think. Meeting someone at noon
at the mall to get scented candles I had ordered. My Easy Spirit
sandals - very old high-heeled slip on feel good wear like iron sandals
- are showing signs of wear after three years. I lived in them in the
hospital. Maybe I will peek into their store. Chemo should be brief. Kid
has been working out for a month, looking good.
Email says candles will have to wait. Oh well. Will
go home and do dishes - I am ignoring them. They are crawling out of the
sink. They have not started moving on their own which is when you want
to do them. Should be home early today I think. Need to vacuum family
room again. Didn't I just do that?
OK - so I wasn't home early. He had the horrid stuff
today and back on IV Benadryl so I got home around 4 PM.
We were early at the hospital. I had served breakfast (cereal) and we
had coffee (white mocha for me) and tea (for him). Then we went in to
the Day Hospital. I had a book. He slept because they hit him pretty fast.
I read P.D. James. Two murders already.
I came home to papers I must fill out for a job interview
and email in all directions. I need to run to the post office with the
deposit (certified) in the morning before driving down. I had ferried
a chicken sandwich and big salad to him for lunch, I had a salad and 1/2
of that chocolate chip cookie I had shoved in my purse yesterday. I came
home and wanted --- waffles. So I made Belgian waffles and I made the
kid a ham and cheese sandwich. He had one waffle. I had one waffle and
the little bit leftover, drenched in defrosted raspberries. I had this
sudden desire for comfort food. If I had CoolWhip in the house, I would
have added that. I only had chocolate RediWhip. Pass.
We need to drive to Team in Training
tonight and find out about dates for the two Giant's Games. I probably
ate the waffles because I knew it would be a long night and I would be
tired, and I needed energy. It also gets cold at night and I need to stay
warm.
The trick tomorrow will be to find nylons, girdle
(light) and shoes never mind a dress and jacket. I haven't dressed up
since March 5th. Time to sort that mass I call a closet! I have two metal
pipes that should run the length of the small third bedroom. I want them
as closet poles. Hmmm. Call the contractor.
For now, I run out to water the yard (still hopeful
some grass will sprout out back). I also still want the front yard soft
so I can plant tomatoes. That MUST happen this week-end! Procrastinate.
Procrastinate. Procrastinate. My mantra.
We did training at the track tonight (we are the
cheering section). It got suddenly cold. From 80-degree days to "expect
snow on the hills this weekend". I was actually beginning to get hypothermic
when we drove home. I turned up the heater and blasted us until I could
feel myself relax. At home by 9PM, I fixed a whole wheat English muffin,
peanut butter and jelly for me, a Healthy Choice Peanut Thai bowl for
him. I will now take all my pills (I sometimes take only the Rx stuff
in the morning).
I am now, having driven back and forth to San Jose
twice in two different cars, in traffic, tired. I drive back in the morning.
For now, I wish to sleep.
