Diet Diary - Day 14

2002 Story Set

April 29, 2002
Day 14 Monday 4/29/02 I am up by 8:30AM only because I have things to do, or so I tell myself. I find the deposits that must go express mail and make that out. EDD envelope is in the car. Form is at my side. Rain has stopped and outdoors is wet. Dog went out anyway. Cat banged the empty dog biscuit box around telling me he was out of food. Yes he is. I gave him sensitive stomach stuff. I still have the rabbit. Must do something before a run to the pet store is required! I keep telling myself that! But the tomatoes will love the rabbit, if I ever get them.

I have hosed the back sidewalk down over and over but it is again covered in cherry tree detreius, petals and stems and baby leaves. I will have cherries. Don't know how many. Cherry tree is beside the rabbit hut. Tree is full sized and too high to climb or pick so I only get about 1/4th of the tree into reach with a ladder. Rest I leave for the birds. These are Bing cherries. I need a new tree, a dwarf. There is a hole in the back yard and I also need one on the side yard. Maybe a peach tree in the side yard too since the dwarf in front is at last growing and has peaches on it. Of the two new fruit trees out front, one has fruit. The lemon tree out back is struggling while the lemon tree out front is happy as a lark and growing steadily. The back one suffered from the clogged sprinkler. I water it extra now.

I went to the Post Office to express mail the deposit to the CMA account. It can be tracked. There was, of course, a line into the lobby. Then I went to the EDD office to see what I had done wrong on the form. Don't know why I grabbed it back exactly but---. There was a short line and we discussed white-out and what I should fill in. It was at that point that I realized that they had started the account from APRIL and not MARCH. So I had to wait for a trouble-shooter. And wait. Finally, we discussed what I had done. Faxed it from there. Faxed it again 4 weeks later due to it being not in Sacramento. Faxed it because the phone was not working. (It was working but on overload.) OK - the form is wrong and needs to be voided. Good thing that I grabbed it back.

They hunted for the form (They date file it and I did not have the file with me.) In time, we guessed what day I had been in and found it. I was on the phone the whole time. Now, I will not be paid for one week (regardless of when you file, you lose a week.) Then I will get three forms and send them in on May 5th and get paid for five of the six weeks. If I had filed on the 21st or 22nd of March, I might have had all six weeks. I am still not sure. Anyway, file immediately. I had faxed the form from EDD on March 25th (Monday). My last day of "work" was March 20th. I should have filed the 21st, which was an extended chemo day or the 22nd, when I couldn't get through on the phone. They told me at the EDD office when I called them that it was "retroactive" and I could file on Monday. Well, that is not true evidently!

OK. I am exhausted by the time I get this all figured out. I am out $330.00 that I normally would have dropped at QVC on fashion day. I can deal with that.

I came home and tried to call HIPP. Area code 516 is wrong. After two attempts with the phone card, I dialed directly and got a cell phone. Find the papers. Find the correct number (I hate voice mail!) and use the phone card and recall. OK. Now they have approved the reimbursement of my son's health insurance through COBRA (they do not cover dental or vision which I kept) but had some trouble understanding that the check was for $1,175.00 (two months for everything) of which they will send me $424.00 back. First I have to send a copy of the cancelled check, presumably with an explanation, when I get it back. I have to do this every month. I can deal with that. COBRA wants their money FAST every month. That can work.

I need to go to the store and my son wants to come along. I grab a coffee and 1/2 a muffin smothered in icing. He lies in his room in boxers waiting for me to fetch him clothes. He can work out and lift 50 lbs. but he cannot pick out clothes. I drag a load in from the dryer. Thank heavens I run laundry nearly daily! He stumbles into my room looking for his pants. I have to hand them to him although they are right there, under a towel. He strolled out of the room calling for socks.

I went out and watched Tom Arnold and Hugh Grant beat up Barney in the movie "Nine Months". Best part of that movie.

Ok - I went to Albertson's and I did a massive amount of shopping in that we bought lots of drinks. The Gatoraide, the power-water, diet soda for me, and flavored water for him to start, along with a big box of bottled water which I keep in the cars and around the weight machine. That's for starter's. When I got to check out, since my Visa had worn out and was now non-functional, and the new one has still not arrived, I whipped out the Wells Fargo MasterCard. Imagine my horror when it was rejected. $275.00 and it was rejected - twice! By some quirk of luck, I had my checkbook with me and wrote a check. I was ready to go home and charge Wells Fargo like a mad bull. Pissed Off is a good description.

When I arrived home, the message light was on and it was ---- the fraud people at Wells Fargo. I called the number. OK guys - what in blazes are you doing? They were checking. I bought gas. Right. I did such and such. Right. I tried to charge $275 at the grocery store. Right - and why did I have to write a check? "Oh no," they say. "It was supposed to say to call in for a visual ID check." I said, "It said not authorized. I saw it." "Oh, we're sorry. It shouldn't have done that." "You're right!" "You never charged there before." "And?? My Visa is off at the moment, Master Card is a back up and this is a problem for you?" So they set it so I can now shop. Gee Whizz. I thought it was already set so I could shop!

Ho hum! And then I unloaded the groceries and the small box of lemon Jell-O is missing! I am making a crazy cake - one layer green and one layer yellow. You use a box of yellow cake mix, make it up, divide in half, and add a different box of Jell-O to each. You have parry-colored layers when baked. You ice with CoolWhip and I had bought CoolWhip Light. I have other boxes at home, but I paid for this one! Annoying!

I will go back tomorrow and discuss this with the manager. If they are set to reject cards when the bank just wants a phone call, that's not right. Neither is missing items on an order, no matter how busy, how big the order or how small the item! It is not the first time. The item is always small. It always happens on a big order. It is usually not worth my time to go back. They make you feel like an idiot when you do go back. (I do not let that deter me, I am capable of being an idiot without their help.) And the whole thing gets very suspicious.

My son has his Togo's sandwich, I have a small bowl of Kashi. I had an egg and a muffin (dipped in icing) for breakfast. He had a muffin (no icing) and two eggs for breakfast and a glass of V8 Splash. I stick to decaf. I am sipping on a diet Pepsi, he had one with a lemon twist. These are 20 oz bottles. I also had a few (handful) of Jordan Almonds. I love Jordan Almonds. But I'd better not eat many or I will be sick.

I check email. My friend has been very, very quiet. I get a lot of junk so I spent the time to make a lot of filters. It has reduced the junk a lot. Some of these idiots are sending in virus-laden attachments. I will have to see about a block on such attachments (any .pif or .scr for example). My older son is building a master email filter for the heck of it. He could probably sell it but he will probably put it up on the web for free. It would stop spam email dead. Just piss off a Programming God people! He will eventually get you!

It is now 5PM and I am very tired. I wonder why! I am going to put my feet up (required at this time of the month) and wrap up in a comforter. I am reading a Regency novel now. Light and soothing. Even if I want to strangle this particular heroine.

Tomorrow is Target (a return) and AAA (truck sticker and van registration), and Costco (renewal and shopping, perhaps for cold cream). And a call to Toyota so I can schedule the Lube and Oil for the truck, which is now overdue by 400 miles. I will also get the camper shell. Soon. I need to rest up for all that! Also, if the Visa has not arrived, I will need to call a bunch of people and change the charge card they auto-bill to, which will be most aggravating! That's always a lot of fun, although, if you are not fast enough, they will call you! It's a self-correcting problem!

At 7:00 PM, I stumbled out of a warm bed (where I had retreated to read yet another book) and checked the mail, and the Visa card has arrived. I immediately called the 800 number. So that problem is now also solved.

I fixed cube steaks, a sliced up and microwaved yam (big yam), and mixed frozen vegetables. Colorful dinner. I also had a slice of whole wheat bread and some crystal light. I have been watching Discovery Channel on cable and the mummies of Peru. I am into all the archeological shows. I love Egypt and there is so much more that they know now that it is always fascinating. And now they are tracking the mummies in South America. The pyramids that they have in North and South America are also fascinating. Things I like to think about.

Long night. Both of us up. Perhaps if we got out of bed before noon.. My hips hurt. I read but my eyes close, then my hips wake me up. Finally took Aleve. Also up changing things because flow rather heavy which is unusual late at night. Ate some Jordan Almonds and they were about four too many. Bad girl!
