Diet Diary - Day 20

2002 Story Set

Day 20 Sunday May 5, 2002 Recovery Day

I woke up officially by about 11:00 AM after having put the cat into the bathroom and then into his cage, however I can't remember at what time I did that. I drank water. I am constantly thirsty and have a stuffy nose.

I had coffee. I had two slices of bread, one with Raspberry Jam and one with honey. My son had plain toast. I made eggs, four of them, Omega 3 eggs. We ate and I could not finish and felt sick to my stomach. I drank more Crystal Light, a very large glass. I believe we need more fluid today.

After starting the dishwasher, that is crammed to the gills, I decided that I would go sit in the spa. The water in the spa was over 104 so I put the hose in it. I ran the sprinklers while sitting in the spa and then hosed down the side yard. It is sunny and warm and the 5' tall Calla Lilies fell over - as they always do when it is warm. I have to cut them back every spring and they re-grow even taller and thicker - but the cutting is like wielding a machete and it fills the recycle garbage can to the brim. Not for today's task list. I have pumpkins and gourds self-planting in the back yard - what fun. I will cut the lawn around them.

I am now waterlogged and change to a nightgown, long, and no underwear. No makeup and no hair style either. I need a day of recovery.

I fix Mango sherbet for my son and chocolate sherbet for me. Food is not attractive. I will go fix more Crystal Light.

5:15PM I have managed to bring in the trip detritus from the van and more or less disposed of it in neat piles of trash and laundry. I am fixing a frozen entrée for my son's dinner. I have had a slice of my new multigrain bread with butter and some Jelly Belly beans with coffee. It is hot and I have opened the windows. I am watching Mansfield Park, the new version in a 2-hour movie. The older one is a 6-hour version made 20 years ago. All six Jane Austin novels were made by BBC and several were in 6-hour versions. I watch them often and I re-read the books.

My throat is swollen from all the shouting yesterday. Between the exhaustion and the heat, I am listless.

I checked email while the microwave was running and found 52 spam messages on my other email. Fifty One! Ridiculous! Perhaps in the next election we can raise this issue. Vote for people who will stop this crass misuse of the communications system.

7:00 PM I baked a cake mix with egg whites, water and Jell-O added just to try it and because food did not really appeal to me. I had a piece with CoolWhip (light) on it. It was fine I suppose but I am tired and want to rest but it's warm even with fans on and windows open.

I am having tea and will curl up with a book. Headache, swollen throat, fuzzy head. Had one square of chocolate earlier. Had enough sugar. Now will drink water and hot tea to rehydrate. Need another night of sleep although they do say you cannot catch up. Too old for this stuff. Must remember that in future.

8:00 PM Watched Nero Wolfe and then the last two hours of 75 years at NBC. Probably missed the nostalgia part. I had a few mixed grain Wheat Thins. My son had gotten Triskets and hot sauce. He gets a shot and a pill later.

1:30 AM Another wakeful night! Actually, uncomfortable. I had two 1/2 glasses of wine and no joy. Have completed another book. Headache, hips hurt, shoulder hurts. Expect great pain tomorrow.
