Diet Diary - Day 21

2002 Story Set

May 10, 2002
Day 21 Monday May 6, 2002

9:00 AM I woke up due to son's TV. Mad at son. Discovered back is out, first time in a long time. Should have done the dipper last Friday knowing would miss gym on Sunday. Damn! Haven't had this pain in a long time. Stretching will help, so will drugs. Stretching on the dipper prevents this. Ugh! OK if I do not move. Did not expect this to be result of Saturday's lugging and hauling! Caught off guard.

Always have "fond" memories of first husband when this happens, who injured my spine (compressed disk) early on. Many painful days and several trips to emergency room. Good thing I did not own my Baby Eagle 9mm cannon at the time! He would have sung soprano! SOB's I have known.

I need to feed the kid. I have coffee and sit a moment. Getting up and down is difficult. Nearly screamed when I tried to get off of couch.

Put three Omega 3 eggs to fry in Smart Balance on low heat. Made a variation of biscuits. Used 2 Cups flour, handful of oatmeal, 1/3 C cornmeal (last in can) 1 Cup buttermilk (reduced fat), 2 Tblsp. Crisco and 4 Tblsp. Canola Oil, 1 teaspoon salt, 1/2+ teaspoon Baking Soda, 1 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder, 1 Omega 3 egg plus handful of sugar. Almost forgot the sugar. (Sugar is no more than 1/4 Cup, usually less). Mixed with large serving fork and then by hand. Adding egg makes biscuits into scones. Left out currants (have none) and raisins (son doesn't like them). Formed into balls (5-6 usually) and put on battered old pizza pan because could bend enough to reach it. Battered pizza pan is favorite cooking tool, emergency cover for pots, support for frozen pizza, occasional cookie sheet when can't reach spiffy new heat-distribution sheets.

Went to put in oven and discovered I did it again. I turned the oven on but did not press start. This over takes two buttons. The last one took one. When in a hurry I forget to press start. I prefer ovens with the damn dial for the temperature too. Button pressing is a pain for people with weakening fingers.

Served eggs (two for him, one for me), which are lovely fried brown but not burned. Comes from low heat. Back does not like me getting up off chair. Will cook biscuits and then get in spa. Heat is only help for this. That and time and stretching.

11:00 AM Spoke to stock manager. I have leavings over at former holding not moved yet. A roll-over - roll it over. And while talking realized that I needed to run to Post Office and mail unemployment things, all three of them. Jumped up and dressed in new workout clothes, grabbed a sweatshirt jacket and ran to Post Office. No make up, hair slicked, slip-ons, Ran back home, stripped back to a bathing suit.

Also while talking was told again, go do creative things. Look for work but do the writing. Need to call doctor, schedule appointment, me and son. Need to look for a grant possibility.

Son not eating biscuit, I had mine. He is snuffling, under weather, but up on-line. Gave him more Crystal Light. We go through about 3 pitchers a day.

12:00 PM Found that I have a floating mutual fund - can't be moved over until Aug 8th. As long as I know that it is over there. Meanwhile, di a quick look at grants for films. Sparse pre-filming. Also looked at fund support for books. Better to sell with an agent.

      2:00 PM
Son has made it into spa. I made it into shower and a caftan. Fixed last of cube steaks with one Pasta AnyTime spaghetti microwave thing. Took child his food while he sat in spa. He decided that I should cut up his meat.

Talking to the deaf is a rare treat. He deliberately mishears on occasion just to drive me crazy, filling in similar sounding words, the more off the wall the better. Too quick a wit. Still refuses hearing aide. We watch captioned TV now. Gotten used to it. Hear things you never thought were in there.

Changed Estrogen patch while I was in the kitchen (keep them with my pill bottles). Loaded dishwasher. Did not run yet.

Did an update on web-based job search. Sending email to placement Also placement service. Downloading white papers. Magma. EDA firm. Part of research into new textbook, "EDA-ASIC Design Flow Methodologies".

3:00 PM Went looking for son and pool top was on. Found child in room. Good. Expected child to be a prune by now. Throw schedules out the window. Time to curl up with a book. Heat makes air heavy. Fan running. All windows firmly shut until later.

3:30 PM CPA has a question - last one for last year's taxes. I have a question right back due to stock exercise. Got up and brought in second load of laundry. Third one now in the dryer. My bed is buried again.

Kid demanded a pickle. I had low-fat cake with Lite CoolWhip. Opened windows. Cooling down outside. Legs and back stiffening. May need another shot in the spa. (Heat works.)

      5:00 PM
Watched make-over Monday on Oprah. Making over older women. I just did that. But I need to lose weight. I seem to be doing that.

7:00 PM Received three sets of brushes and 12 of whitener - which we have never started using. My son uses his SonicCare brush. Mine is plugged in, haven't tried it yet. Should do so. Been using up other new brushes and stuff. Fixed kid hit sauce so he can eat it with crackers. Deciding what to defrost.

8:45PM Tossed the kid underwear and demanded that he at least have boxers on while I was making the bed. To assuage his guilt, I complied with his request to put on underwear under the nightgown I was lounging around in since on days I am not going anywhere or after having gone somewhere, and it is hot, I tend for basic simplicity. I lounged in a caftan all day, changing into a fresh nightgown as dusk fell. The outside temperature was falling as well. He was still wrapped in a towel having dropped his swim trucks, wet, onto his bathmat and bath rug, thereby soaking both. Every trash can in his bedroom and bathroom was overflowing. As were the kitchen brown bags, the green trashcan still waiting in the back yard for bleaching.

Suitably attired for the basic requirements of modesty, I put clean sheets on his bed and clean pillowcases on his pillow pile. I put the comforter on the top and the cat I tossed onto the floor. The cat likes to lay in the middle of the bottom sheet, thereby assuring his comfort and my fit of the vapors. I insist that he remain on the top of the comforter. I push the door closed as I moved trash around on the floor, causing the cat to bolt from the room. He came back. He tried to get into my room. He has learned to bat his head on a nearly-closed door to get inside. He also pulls doors open with his claw. Clever, sneaky cat.

I folded all three loads of laundry although they are not fully put away. I also have the dishwasher ready to run.

I am defrosting the pork chops in the microwave. I will stir fry them (sliced) with Sweet and Sour veggies. I am reading and watching Notting Hill.

11:00 PM Son sleepy and hasn't had his pill. I round up leftovers and plan on shaking him awake in about 20 minutes.

Well, they did not work. I gave him his shot (he screamed nicely) but he would not take his pill. Very crabby. Not enough carbo in his diet yesterday. I keep track of these thins. No carbs for dinner except in veggies. None for breakfast (did no eat biscuit) and only 1/2 serving of noodles for lunch.
