Diet Diary - Day 27

2002 Story Set

May 19, 2002
      Day 27 Sunday May 12, 2002 Mother's Day
8:10 AM I have a headache and an earache and a stuffy nose, from being out in the great outdoors in the pollen capital of the world, Fremont California. I drank water during the night to help. Got up to phlegm and a cough.

Cat sleeping in bathroom sink after I locked him in about 5:30 AM. My cough must have attracted him to the door. Must find a pet groomer. He needs his claws trimmed back. Drastically. When his claws are trimmed, he can't make so much noise. The stinker saunters down the hall after I make my coffee. I know we are out of sensitive stomach stuff. I also need to get rid of the rabbit or a bigger bag of rabbit food. I need to all for chinchilla food. (Get it from the ranch in Vista.) Sun already bright. My arms already red. Do I do the gym or plant the tomatoes? I need to plant the tomatoes and get the snail poison around them.

A new book - "Authentic Self" - discusses who you are at home vs. who you are at work. Says corporate self usually different because people want to fit the corporate culture. Says companies want you to be your authentic self. Says it works better. I can tell you that this is not the case. Look at me. The guys at Synopsys hated that I knew Fabio. They hated that I do his website. They were confused that I wrote fiction. The interviewer at Cadence wanted to know how I could get any sleep if I was doing "all this stuff". Another asked why I wasn't a movie producer. My resume now does not list my website. Makes no mention that I have short stories on-line.

He talks about "transition period" when you get home from work as you go back to who you really are. Know what? So what! Isn't working better? Oh, excuse me. He must mean MEN could and should be their authentic selves. Of course. God forbid that a woman should be.

Oh yes. Time to take a pick ax to the front yard!

I make two slices of whole wheat toast with Smart Balance and a little jam. Rx stuff. Take pills later. Out of one calcium, second about out, out of stress tabs with iron and out of B6 with cider vinegar et al. Time to raid the drug store. When I go out for today's dinner. Older son coming but does not wake up before noon.

El Ninio on the way? Today to be cooler but storms coming? I need to get away from the news.1

11:00 AM Came in for a break. Five plants dug into resisting earth. Spaded over a big piece of front lawn. Ready for tomatoes once I rack the grass out of there.

Made eggs and toast for kid. Hacked and coughed. (Both of us.) Made two Omega 3 eggs for me with jam. Tossed loaf of bread that has gone south. Opened new one. Put bread in fridge. Hot weather not nice to whole wheat.

Put Retinin A and skin bleach on - need to get under hat. Nose red. Tracked muddy shoes on carpet earlier when I came for nose rag and a drink. Took shoes off this time. Gloves and shores muddy and damp. Drinking Gatorade. Also Crystal Light. May make coffee.

1:45 PM And no sign of missing older child. Been resting. Forgot sprinkler was on. Ground now soaked really well. (Needed it.) Came in hour ago and took shower, scrubbed off mud. All plants in ground (and wet) and snail stuff put out. I am hot and tired. Started load of wash.

Had a couple of dark chocolate nuts things. Fixing Lean Pocket for kid. Probably cheese thingy for me (Lean Cuisine). Started load of dishes.

Headache. Sinuses on full assault. Drank a soda to clear throat. Drainage causes a choking cough. Where is Robitussin?

Brought mail in (from yesterday). After all the phones calls, etc. I just received one unemployment check for $330.00 - one week! They owe me for five weeks (six weeks, one withheld = 5) or $1,650.00 Not what one would expect. How inefficient and ineffective can they get? So I will be back over there Monday to sort it out one more time. This is unbelievable! Last time I was out, I was paid one week, they owed me for six. Back then it was $290 per week. They lost the paperwork then too! If they catch this claim up in time, it will pay the mortgage this month.

I will have my cannelloni and go to the supermarket. Happy Mother's Day.

3:00 PM And I am back and groceries put away. Time for Yogurt. Time for spa. No sign of child. No answer at his house (think that was the right number). Store was out of Portobellos, corn, myriad other things. Got Baby Bellos, some button tops, cucumber, tomato, pepper for salad. Fillet for dinner. Last filet until working. Sign of the times: no employment apps being accepted at the supermarket.

Found two of four vitamins I needed. That's a start. Triskets on sale. Got four boxes. V8Splash on sale. Got four bottles. Tend to shop for bargains now.

Will close up garage and perhaps sit in spa or read. Head full of fluid (allergies and weather change running around). Cooler and breezy outside. Wind kicks up pollen. Kid snorking from allergies.

6:00 PM Tired but need to get up and fix something for dinner. Salad first I think. Tomato, onion, green pepper and lettuce, with low fat Italian dressing.

8:00 PM Add to that - fillet smothered with mushrooms served with a microwaved potato. Got the call- older son sick. Younger son me two DVDs - Support Your Local Sheriff and Support Your Local Gunfighter. Love them! A young James Garner. I have Murphy's Romance. Wish they had done Gambler II, have the movie too. He's just so smooth.

I have a headache and stuffy head. Not from wet hair. Caught this from my younger son who has the sniffles. Finally listened when he blew his nose! That is not allergies! Ugh! Took Sudafed and fled back to bed. Up and down all night. Sinus drainage from one side to the other. On my back, I choke. Hate this! Where's the codeine!
