2002 Story Set
| May 19, 2002 Day 29 Tuesday May 14, 2002 Got up at 6:30 AM and set about waking up. Earache, soar throat, bad cough. Took Rx pills, codeine cough syrup and went back to lay down a bit. Back up at 7:30 AM and had toast. Kid needed his shot (forgot it last night!) And toast. I took my vitamins. He had V8Splash. 9:30AM Showered, dressed and in makeup, I hit the road to the doctor, a long drive through San Jose and onto 280 to Portola Valley. We went over the Dunbarton bridge and down --- University Avenue! I can't seem to keep off that street! Went past University and down to 280 South. Got to doctor by 10:30 AM - which means I made real good time in the truck. Son had leftover Kettle Corn from the stadium, bottle of his flavored water. I brought water and a bottle of Gatorade. 11:00 AM My son goes in and we checked on his progress. Can the diet work. Yes. They are delighted to see him up and walking and alive. Doctor gets a copy of everything from Stanford. How about his heart? They do an EKG and then a stress EKG. Heart rate to 150 but that's because of the long time spent flat on his back. Doctor says he looks good. Now we schedule the echocardiogram. I am next. First the head pain. Sharp. Scary. It's a pinched nerve. Neuralgia. Bend my head different and unpinch the nerve. How about the Estrogen patch? Well, let's see. I was 13 on the test for the pills. Less estrogen than a man. I was 132 on the test with the patch. Yep. It's working. Explains the PMS and the chocolate cravings. Now for the bad news. I can only stay on estrogen for another two years. Then it becomes a bad thing. I go on some different drug. Not estrogen. Lovely. Didn't know that was coming. Hands. See specialist. Make appointment. Have an EMG done testing for carpal tunnel. Need to do that fast. Before I submit resume to do technical typing. May be arthritis which I can treat. Carpal needs surgery. Also a lawyer and a lawsuit to collect disability during recovery. Stuffy nose, earache. Infection. (Son just has nasal drip from allergies.) Gave me drugs. Knew I was sick. Took pill (1 per day, new drug, supposed to not have the yeast infection side effect most antibiotics have.) Hot in the house later - I crashed. Spots on leg. Dermatologist. Get them checked. OK. Now I have a longer checklist. We leave and I drive straight for --- Toyota. The truck will have it's lube and oil. Sky is clear and blue and it is hot. Temp will go up until after Thursday. Hot weather is here. We are done in about 1 hour. We discuss the van - the gas gauge thing is $300+. No transmission available. Will check for synchronizers. We go home by way of Wendy's and he has a double with fries and a large shake. I have a single hamburger and teal a few fries. We have munched a little kettle corn. Interesting stuff but not as good as regular popcorn. 3:00 PM I go to my room and crash, a can of diet soda at my side. House is hot and I have fans running. I think I've been running a fever and didn't catch it. Son planted in the livingroom. I am going back to bed. My diet was not discussed. Just noted that I was F-A-T. My to do list shrunk by two items, and two added. Broke even. Tomorrow is paperwork and post office and blood test day. Gak. 5:30 PM and I get up for a non-additive decaf. Hot liquid. Ear aches. Blew nose - that's good because it was too stuffy to blow before. Headache hit - aha - moved my chin and tilted head and sat up straight and the pain receded. Back to the gym as soon as this infection is under control. Stretch. Don't want food. May have to give son something but he is not working out either with the nose business. (Some chemo's leave him down.) He got a lot of exercise yesterday in walking. He adjusts his food down. I on the other hand reach for the See's dark chocolates. 7:00 PM Taking stuff to clear ears, stop cough. Good tablespoon of hot sauce with a couple of crackers usually clears a lot out - nasty stuff! Shot of hot sauce makes my ears ring and my nose run! Ran garbage can to street barefoot and in a skimpy nightgown. One of my brighter moments! Mother's usual attire when rushed. Have done this on icy driveway in dead of winter. 9:00 PM I have stumbled out of bed looking like I was beaten up (swollen face, bleary running eyes). Blew my nose forever it seemed but it got the junk out of my head. (Infection comes from not being able to blow it out.) Earache not as bed. Spike headache came and I moved my head and voila - better. Dinner is the last piece of fillet cut in half (1/2 as thick as it was) and fired it in a little olive oil with 1/2 onion, 3 cloves sliced garlic, and a whole bunch of sliced button mushrooms. A box minus the four I already used. I peeled and cut up two long thin yams and cooked them in a covered dish with water and butter (1 Tablespoon) in the microwave. Filet takes all of 5 minutes. Potato takes longer. I cooked the onions and mushrooms, and then took them out of the pan while the steak was in. Held dinner for the yams (stirred once). Served the steak smothered in the mushrooms mix with the pretty orange yams slices. Lovely. Went back to bed. Reading book started last night. Actually finished another one last night. If I am awake, I read. If I am in the car garage waiting for the car, I read. If I am in the hospital, I read. A novel in my purse at all times. Reading through one a day now. Thin ones. Fat ones take 2-3 days. Depending. Went summarily back to bed. 11:30 PM Staggered up for cough syrup (1 teaspoon codeine mix). Let dog in. Rolled over. Me, not the dog. |
