Day 6 Sunday April 21, 2002 Gym, , and Gathering
Groceries
and I did not get up at the crack of dawn, I rolled
over. In another week, I will put myself back on schedule. But for now,
I am learning to sleep. Made coffee, and worked on another chapter or
two of my novel while I watched "Sinatra" on cable. Noise in the background
is required when I write since I am the eldest of a houseful of children.
Quiet drives me nuts unless I am out in the woods. Speaking of which,
we haven't done that for three years now. Probably why I have no idea
where my tent is. Make note: Find camping gear. Storage? Garage? Borrowed
by older son?
Hit the gym after a lunch (breakfast for him) of
eggs, potatoes and slice of toast with Take Control and Jam. Did almost
my full heavy metal lift set before I got dizzy. Did total of 42 min (35
in front, 7 cool-down) on treadmill at 3.0-3.1 MPH. About par for being
out 5 weeks while my feet healed enough for shoes. No leg lift or Dorsi
flex, 1/2 of repeats on the Dipper. Did the rest OK however and at the
weight level at which I had stopped. Due back in gym on Tuesday to keep
from going into coma with sore muscles. (48-hour delay)
Fixed the kid lunch (leftover pork strips and veggies)
and had three fudge brownies for me. Of course. Because I felt tired and
dizzy and needed SUGAR! Also needed chocolate.
After recovering my equilibrium, we went grocery
shopping. They were laying in wait. My freezer was empty. Packages of
pork chops, buy one get one free, packages of beef loin, buy one get one
free and chicken breasts, ribs in, buy one get one free. $33 worth of
meat "free". Freezer no longer empty. Enough meat for a month. Even with
kid eating five meals a day. Reviewed shopping technique with son. (Specials
are good if it is stuff you would normally by. Stocking up on 2-for and
best-buy specials is OK under those circumstances.) In twelve months,
he must do this on his own. (end of chemo = college) Ha, ha and ha! Still
feed older child milk, bananas and Triskets when he visits. He left home
8 years ago.
Got home and am in coma. Now must put away all $258
worth of groceries including breaking up the large packages of meat into
1-day servings, wrapping and freezing. Miss having my son carry in things
from the car. He staggers in with two bags and collapses. (First time
he was in the store the whole time. His feet hurt but this is progress.)
It is now 6:00 PM. Make note: Try getting
up before 10AM. Lots to do tomorrow. Including getting ready for tomatoes
and squash by watering front yard so shovel can penetrate the ground.
Flowers exploding in the 80 degree heat. Fruit on established trees.
This week my goal is 4-5,000 words a day on one of
the books, any one. Currently running 1,500-3,000 a day. Need to get revved
up faster. Focus. Focus.
Did one load wash, one load dishwasher, and watered
front and back yard. Ran off the pigeons who have homed in on the new
grass seed.
7:30 PM Fed kid (leftover potato, chicken
in sauce and veggies) and had 1/2 baked potato myself. High starch diet
due to upset stomach. (Abdomen has never behaved since the incarcerated
hernia.)
Carved up all the meat into 1-day portions, froze
same. Found the freezer bags halfway through. Pork is double-bagged in
storage bags. Chicken is partially in foil. Beef is in freezer bags.
9.00 PM Son is reading Rock-Hard challenge.
Takes 90 days. (Muscle and Fitness, Rock on the cover.) I need to read
that article. Maybe I need to be a body-builder. I already have big thighs
(mostly muscle for 300-lb lifts) and arms like hams with no wobble (also
mostly muscle). Now if the stomach could be convinced to leave.
