Diet Diary - Day 9

2002 Story Set

April 29, 2002
Day 9 Wednesday April 24, 2002 The Gym, The Spa and the Blood Test

and I did not get up early, again. And when I was up, I watched the last 2 hours of the newer Tom Jones which Digital Biography channel was running while I updated the FabioIFC.com website and did general cleanup. Restarting the computer is not enough for the Zoom modem (piece of crap hardware!) so I end up shutting down and then restarting. I have to do this whenever I run DreamWeaver and Fetch else Eudora 5 will pull a hissy fit and hang the system. Boo hiss!

I finally dragged the child out of bed at 11AM and force fed him so I could leave for the gym. I did most of my routine - backwards today. Still catching up. Get overheated at 27-30 minutes at 3.1MPH. Did leg lifts (16 reps at 225 lbs, and 135lbs). Ab machine (45 and then 53). Dorsi Flexor (45lbs. 8 reps at all stations twice and 60 lbs. at the first station).

Bicep curl (30 lbs. - 8 reps twice). Chest press (50 lbs. at the heavy machine, 30 lbs. at the other one, 16 reps on each). Treadmill (35 min at 3.1 warm up and 7 min at 2.9 for cool down). That was enough. I was too hot and when I get overheated, I get red in the face with a white lip that scares people - the lip is a scar.

Home again, and the recycle has not been picked up but the trash has. I showered (my shoulders are tight) and fed the kid. We have a run to the blood test center today, pick up film that should be ready, and perhaps, go to the mall. Maybe. I need a nap.

The amount of spam - much of it obscene - that is on the posted email has hit 50 messages a day! There has GOT to be a way to stop these S.O.B.s! I have filters up - especially for the dolts shipping .pif files - these are virus files. Doesn't seem to help.

Time for blood test for my son and I am in a coma! He said I overdid it. I said I lifted a lower weight. Whatever.

We did the blood test - at a new location since they were backed up and his normal person was missing. Then we got film and slides (his artwork that we photographed). And then it was off to Togo's since I am really, truly in a coma and want to curl up with my new P. D. James novel. My son and I read the Muscle & Fitness Hers and he noticed that the woman's magazine has recipes and the Men's magazine does not. What's with that?

He had a large Sicilian Chicken and I had a regular tuna. We each had a combo and I had a Diet Pepsi and a small bag of chips. He had brisk Lemonade and a small bag of chips. I have a cookie shoved in my purse.

We also argued about weight loss - a woman cannot lose weight as fast as a man and a woman does have to restrict calories - not just exercise. My son can exercise and lose weight. I can exercise and stay the same. I can do a 50 lb. forward press on my weight machine - I've never been that strong before! And this is while I am in a coma. The spa is looking better and better Must go test the water.

Of course, I put the recipe for lemon-lime cake (made with Jell-O and CoolWhip) on my cabinet.

Suggestion we have for better planning: Decide on 7-days worth of menus. Make a shopping list recipe by recipe in Excel. Sort by ingredient. Voila - shopping list. Egad. A lot of work. I suggested that we do 8 weeks worth and publish it as a book! He was looking at the low-fat lasagna. I said serves 8 or 4 dinners for two. It's called leftovers. He has to agree to eat leftovers. I also pointed out that two meals are cereal (oatmeal) and two can be sandwiches. Number 5 can be the fancy dinner. No working mother can do better.

I used to cook a big pot of stew (24 cu ft refrigerator) and serve it every other day, broken up with home-made pizza, franks split with cheese in them or macaroni and cheese (made with Velveeta). Note the high fat content. Ahem. I also would make homemade spaghetti sauce, in a vat. Freeze it in 1-meal portions. Homemade spaghetti sauce requires 2-3 days. It starts from whole peeled (canned) tomatoes. About 6-7 big cans worth. Add several sorts of meat including Italian Sausage. Spices. Onions. Garlic. Tomato paste. Chianti (1-2 cups). Meatballs. Whatever is leftover in the fridge. Comes out so thick that a spoon stands up in it. 1 Cup will feed three. Haven't made that for awhile.

Went on-line to find size 1X exercise clothes - am tired of forcing body into XL. http://www.thehiddengoddesslist.com/style/athletic.htm

Took two tries - found Junonia and ordered catalog - searched for Danskin Plus and found a San Diego store on-line. Bought blind. Pants in black grape and top in hibiscus. Also found Monty Python's Flying Circus on BBC cable. Oh God!

Went out and doctored spa - will get in after chemicals mingle a bit.

Spa lovely. Had to get out when started to cook. Mmmmm. Went to bed, read a few pages. Eyelids did not cooperate. I did take Celebrex. Too much inflammation. Then I remembered. I was on Celebrex all the time when I did the lifting. Hope that is not a requirement! Anyway, drifted off. Some hip pain even with Celebrex. Even with walking. Annoying. Xrays show my hips are fine. Bone Density thing shows I am fine. Hip pain usually recedes with walking.
