2002 Story Set
| July 25, 2002 I had a busy day - as all chemo days are. So busy, that I skipped Team in Training. We have a kickoff- fall season - on Saturday. I got up, early, and feeling like lead. The two days at Gold's and one day at 24-Hour Fitness are taking their toll. Not helped by the brownies. Sugar is not what your body craves when you work out. It's what the HRT drugs crave. The Lethal Low-Fat Brownies---- When a few days (not many) old --- require heating in the microwave. About 20-30 seconds, depending on the size of the brownie. Then spread the top of the brownie with low-fat peanut butter. Or, put a large gollop of Cool Whip Lite and serve with a fork. This does not provide energy. I think it zaps it. Which is probably why HRT drugs like it. Keeps PMS at bay. He does not eat breakfast in the morning - early morning. So I had mine - toast - and decaf. I got dressed. Slowly. Yelling at the sleeping child and banging on his door at intervals. Finally, it was time to go. I speed-packed the rolling bag and off we went - to roll the van down the driveway and out to the street - I had pulled it up thinking we were having the street sweeper today. Must be next week. We took off, the RADI light glowing on the van dashboard. Must be time to have the car serviced. Yep. Getting near. The light went out over the Dunbarton bridge. We got in to the hospital, had a blood test and then waited. And waited. And waited. We chatted with people. I fetch my Starbuck's Cafe Mocha decaf low fat no whip Grande and his Grande Chai Tea. We wait some more. Finally, 6MP pills in hand, and his legs stabbed, we left. I drove down El Camino, and drove and drove. We made Clark's Burgers. We ate Clark's Burgers. And then we drove back. And drove and drove. We visited Fry's. I now own an Iomega 250MB Zip drive USB connection that can read and write 100MB disks as well. USB connection is what the PC at my new job has. So USB it is. It also comes in Firewall. What is interesting is that the Iomega removable hard drive units, 10 Gigs and 20 Gigs are out with either USB or Firewire. I must consult the Programming God. (My older child.) I then tried to find MY doctor for my biopsy. I drove and drove and drove and then realized I was in Redwood City - I missed the street. A few turn-around later, I guessed and my son finally saw the street sign for Oak Grove. I made my appointment - frazzled. He zapped three brown spots. ("Why do they suddenly become scaly and peel like that?" "It's because we are " "Don't say that!" "...becoming young at heart.") He cored biopsy-ed the blemish that never heals. I limp out. Four sore spots. I run home, up Willow and back over the Dunbarton. The van is blowing sideways so hard that I am actually turning the wheel to the left. I get home and grab a coffee after locking the cat into my son's room. My son grabbed an onion bagel and a foil packet of tuna. I called the vet. He has left! No rabies shot! I turn the cat loose. Will try next week. Fortified, we left for Ohlone and his catalog. We walked up the hill. He is sweating by the top of the hills. We check in with Disabled Students and get a temp Disabled Parking Pass and an application for a more permanent one. He stays up and I walk back for the car. We drive to Barnes & Noble but after crawling on the floor, it is too early for Signet Regencies to be out. I also realize that I am tired. Very tired. We stop and get his four rolls of film of flowers and mother's feet. Also my hands. Before I shortened the acrylic nails. He does good photography. I came home a crawled into bed. I needed a rest. Then I got up and made Sausage thing. A pack of sliced mushrooms. A pack of Turkey Sausage. One yellow onion, medium, chopped. One red, one green and one orange pepper, chopped. One entire Elephant garlic, sliced up (four bulb cloves) 4 tblps TACO seasoning 3 tblsp Olive Oil Cook down into nice transparent mushrooms and onions. Serve with rice. |
