The Final Dress: Dusky Green-Blue Crepe

2002 Story Set

June 31, 2002
I bought make up and thinned my hair - disaster - brown sugar gave me GOLD roots!
And the velvet dress is HEAVY!!!!!
Almost done sewing it - I tried it on with pined sides
Could be over the top. Just a bit too fancy.
      I now have BANGS!!!!!
And my multiple cowlick hair is unruly as hell - being lighter with the thinning it now feels free to tousle itself in all directions.
My son is laughing and refusing to comment ("safer that way" he says).
I have eaten little and feel like killing something!!!
He has retired to his room.
The mineral based make up stuff (nearly $300) arrives MAYBE before I leave on the date --- maybe.
On Sunday morning, I took in the velvet dress (too loose) - and sewed it up and tried it on - lovely - but----- heavy.
It is Sunday morning. One week before the date.
So I ran to the fabric store - got in when it opened - and the last piece of crepe in the store was a dull dark green. Not black but a blue-green.
They had a slightly lighter one but this matched my eyes. I checked on both.
I took the top piece left on the bolt - 3.5 yards.
      Ran home and started cutting.
I had forgotten that I had nearly run out of velvet when I made this pattern and had pieced the top of the other one.
I test laid out the dress and saw I was again short of fabric.
I ran back to the store (now fully open with lines) and got the second and last piece on the bolt.
      Good thing.
Turns out the whole back needs to be cut out there.
My son finally woke up - I had bussed him - he has lipstick mouths all over him - but he had merely swatted me off all morning.
I gave him lunch - it is noon after all. He slept through breakfast.
I had a low fat Yogurt and a tablespoon of Grapenuts stirred in
      That's all so far today
      Keeping the calorie count low.
      Tra la.
The dress will make up quickly since it is crepe and easy to sew.
The velvet one will do for Reno.
I finished the green crepe in one day (its blue-green like the sea, not bright - but a nice quasi-neutral version).
IT IS DONE - shows off my boobs a LOT. I think that's what is setting off my son.
Empire waist nipped in - waist or not - and low cut neckline. Of course I have not clipped the seams yet (eases the dress) and am not wearing a girdle (which I will be). And I should be down a pound or two by next week. I hope!
I modified the pattern so instead of a large cutout hole by the right leg (as is on the velvet dress) I have a slit.
Because when you sit down - the dress sides come apart up to your garters else!
With the slit instead of the cutout, you can hang to some dignity!
I finished the long black dress I had made earlier - sort of a pretty sack) and the short black dress (in satin backed crepe - stain bodice, no sleeves).
I have the sheer jacket and one with sequins (white) finished.
I may finish a black velvet dress and the green velvet one tomorrow after the dentist depending on if I feel like it.
I also finally picked up the scraps from all this sewing off the floor.
Filled a garbage bag half full!
