Momma's Relaxing Night -Ha!

2002 Story Set

Date: October 16, 2002

It is chemo day tomorrow - again.
I spent all day today typing and editing and picking apart the OS doc at work. I ask silly questions that the customers will ask. That's my job. Edit the English and make it make sense.
I am tired, with sore arms and back (from sitting and mousing all day) and come home to --- peace and quiet.
      The kid is missing.
The Team in Training people came and absconded with him before I got home from work.
So I stripped down and jumped into a simple bathing suit - I do have a few that fit even with the expanded Estrogen waistline - which is trying to make me look 9 months pregnant and succeeding. Something about estrogen and synthroid. I may have to stop HRT. Or have my stomach banded. (I am thinking about this.)
Momma gets to float in the spa with the rubber duckies for a bit.
Momma looks like a big fat floating duckie.
And after getting waterlogged, I came in still in a towel (the house is warm) to take my time and load software onto the G4 minitower, which is, believe it or not, nearing three years old. A 450MHz single-CPU processor doesn't seem so fast anymore. A 27GB drive isn't so big anymore. I am looking at an external 120GB harddrive. I am still on OS 9.1.
      So I upload.
      Adobe PhotoShop 7.0.
Dreamweaver Studio MX - Flash, DreamWeaver, Fireworks MX (I already have Freehand 10).
      I have Adobe Illustrator 10.
I ate my son's breakfast (egg sandwich) and had some decaf.
He came in while I was loading.
      He wanted food.
      I got him food.
And he said he was cold.
I didn't pick up on that since the fan was on.
      I made baking powder biscuits.
He said it again, after eating his biscuits.
By the third complaint, I shoved a thermometer in his mouth.
      Yep. Fever. 101.37.
      Call the doctor.
      Run to the hospital.
It is 8:30PM and I redress fast.
We get home by 11:00PM - he was allowed home - on Tylenol and fluid.
      He is not neutropenic.
      He is also dual-port accessed.
Both ports - just in case - tubes dangling.
So tomorrow we are already halfway done.
      Egad.
I had a second Starbucks bottled Lite Mocha - for the day that is - while at the hospital so I wouldn't drive off the bridge (Dunbarton) on the way home.
So now I am sipping wine.
I need to crash and sleep and get up and take him back at 8AM.
That makes 100 miles I drove today, much of it at 70MPH on the freeway, some in heavy traffic and of course up and down University which I stop-light hell.
I would be tired even if I hadn't put in a good day's work!
So much for the relaxing in the spa routine!
