It Must Be Monday!

2002 Story Set

February 4, 2002
On Sunday, I revved up the '87 Toyota van and headed out for the gym.
Nope. The Radiator light flashed on.
How fast can I back up? (Pretty fast!)
OK. I'll take the 2002 Tacomatruck - and park it far, far from the gym. Because it has no dings as yet. A pristine truck. Drove all of 500 feet in 4-wheel drive so I do have a little mud on it.
I can manage this. I picked up Antifreeze when I got the food for the Super Bowl. The truck being put in "truck row". A whole bunch of us own trucks in Fremont.
Toyota, when I called them on Monday, said-----"Can't say it would be a good thing to drive it in--"
      'Course not.
I was going to fill it up, call AAA and ride it down on Wednesday AM in the wrecker. Can't get there any sooner.
Let's take odds. Thermostat? Because I've done this before with this car.
And the truck ain't goin' to the hospital parking lot!!!! NO WAY! So I need the van back in 1 day. Or I need a loaner.
I watch the Super Bowl game - and find my son rooting for the Rams and I am rooting for the Patriots. I try hiding at the end of the game - it was driving me nuts! But, yes I did, I saw the winning kick.
I just felt that the Patriots should win under the current circumstances. And, yes, I do understand football. My very first game was the Rose Bowl and UCLA was playing and won.
So, happy with the winning kick, I merrily went off to work early (crack of dawn) on Monday.
      Not bad traffic.
      Empty parking lot.
I made it in by 8:05AM and got a room for my FLASH training. I am to be taught one-on-one all the stuff I need to know about FLASH. We are paying someone to teach me. I am now, a FLASH animator.
We took over an empty classroom. He can lecture and I can play along on my computer.
The class started out just fine. We made it to lunch.
And then, my NT just would not reboot! It had failed to come up when I opened the case. (flip-top.)
In the docking station back in my office, it would not turn on!
      The Mother Board! AGAIN!
Dell's do that! So I have been told. This is the second time mine has failed. They seem to live about one year.
I am told support would be there-----in awhile.
(They got there at about 3:30-4PM).
And the part is now ordered. Days and days of work freeze-framed.
My NT has a new hard drive coming and support says it is not worth fixing the thing. But we will, and hope it lives until the budget at work says I can have a new, bigger, faster unit. I like big hard drives and lots of RAM. Makes me happy.
Too bad the two repairs could not be done at once - it would save time.
Thank God I have stuff at home on the G4 Mac.
In the afternoon, the instructor and I shared his computer. This makes for an interesting class.
So I came home, not bad traffic, and my son refused to eat his dinner. Seems his stomach is upset so the "maggots" don't go down well. I had heated a Healthy Choice Terriaki Chicken and Rice Bowl. Maggots are his pet name for rice. How charming!
After that graphic description, I will wait before I have that for dinner.
He can live with a Lean Pocket because today I am not cooking. I might break the stove. [Well, not cooking much. A loaf of brown and serve bread and a Hot Link later, I have Medifast and tell him that the kitchen is closed. He nags so well.]
I am now hunting for parts to my G3 and 3400 Mac laptops which I had disabled and hid during the holidays, the power strips being in use.
I can stick FLASH on one of them as a temporary thing. (I have a single-user license.)
FLASH has a 30-day free trial download so I am fine.
I came home, and the G4 Mac Minitower transformer is noisier than usual. It has Apple Care. Apple opened a store in Palo Alto. I know this because it is on University Avenue - on the way to the hospital. My son drools all over the window as we go by.
If I go there, I won't get away without an iPod. I just know it. But the trip is imminent.
The G3 laptop has an AC adapter that needs to be replaced - they did a recall - they tend to catch fire. I have never had trouble with it. Should I say that? Will it implode if I bring it into a building full of PCs?
The 3200 is slow and steady.
      I am undecided.
Actually, I find that both of them are back on OpSys 8.3 and 8.5 respectively. Egad!
So I load the G3 with FLASH 5.0a. I cannot load Freehand 10 since I need OpSys 8.7 or later. Hardly surprising. I own 9.0, 9.1 and 10. But not tonight. I have FLASH, now I need to figure out the swappable ZIP drive so I can read ZIP disks. I see the games files - becasue this laptop sat at the hospital for my son to play on. Until I got him the G4.
My computer case sits in my son's room, a lovely UNUSED G4 laptop sitting in it.
(My other son's G4 is all scratched from being hauled all over the place.)
      What's a mother to do?
