2002 Story Set

August 11, 2002
Thursday was, of course, chemo day.
So off we went to the hospital expecting a short day. Like last week. And then I would get my stitches out.
We went in, hoping there would not be another problem with the blood draw. Like, use the RIGHT butterfly this time.
My son just rolls with the punches, but I rise to the defense of my chick. I bristle.
They did it correct, more or less, and gave me a dinosaur sticker since I was set to charge in all directions. My son relented and gave me a Koala sticker.
      We gave her a brownie.
We were not in Day Hospital this week - just the clinic - but we dropped off a second set of brownie batches for the nurses.
Ones made with low fat brownie mix and then doctored with candy - Special Dark Chocolate in one and Lundt white chocolate (cocoa butter - always check for that) in the other. Cooked right this time.
We went back for a physical - and the doctor washed her hands in cold water on purpose. Running joke.
Once all the counts were checked, etc., they cleared him for a short IV push. I ordered his progesterone for the week.
Now, having not quite recovered from the IV that washed blood all over my son's hand and nearly sent me crashing to the floor, I requested a butterfly. It's only been two-three weeks since that little incident but I have a long memory and my stomach does even better.
The first team of nurses wanted to do IV. I yelped. We got a second team, to do the butterfly.
      They tried one hand.
      And missed.
Or shall we say, got in, and it wasn't drawing back correctly.
      They tried the other hand.
This one threw a bubble. The flush they do first wasn't in the right place.
OK. I gave in. Do an IV. Just don't have his blood spurting all over the place. They told me not to look.
So they brought back the home team and did an IV.
It failed. Now everyone is wringing their hands and can't understand this one.
They sent for yet another nurse and she came in and tried the other hand.
It failed at first but then, she managed to get it.
By now we were both wrecked so I took him downstairs for a soda. I had a small one. It was too hot for coffee. We are in another heat wave.
Then we raced over and I had my stitches removed. The biopsy was negative and they tell me to just ignore it. It seems to be fading now - along with the three burned off dark spots that had decided to start peeling. The blisters popped well and have peeled off and now the scab is shrinking nicely. It was, for a few days, like having bubble wrap scraps on your legs.
We left that doctor and went home and found a package.
That's always fun. Things my son bought from Amazon.com. Because he has a debit card and can do this.
It contained a new computer game (he has been glued to for the past three days) and ----- the Godford's Park DVD.
With an added 6 hours of deleted scenes (practically the whole last 30 minutes of the film is cut - and the scenes are very interesting glimpses into the servant's side of the ending).
We watch the cut scenes and a bunch of other things.
In a coma on the couch - in the room with the one air conditioner which is beating itself to death.
Until it was time to make a run for the Team in Training - new team - all the way back to Stanford!
      A good thing.
We found out where to go to get shoes that fit his foot.
His sneakers do not fit right.
      His foot hangs over.
      Good. Next Thursday.
      For sure.
We went to dinner with this team. I think it's time for me to reorder Medifast!
Next week we are talking at the other team's training - we take turns showing up for support.
Friday promises to be a long day at work (try I got home at 10:15PM) and the weekend will be typing.
      Lots of it.
Actually, I also installed the new Word -PPT - Excel office package - 2001.
Matches the 2002 stuff at work better.
But--- I will need adjustment to it.
I took time out on Saturday and went to a writer's meeting.
Found the name of a lawyer. Good for referrals.
Found a woman with a writing group - who doesn't have a technical writer on board. We exchanged emails.
Found cute baby CDs - I had missed those going by.
      Great for samples of writing.
      Promotion.
      Giveaways.
      I will check that out.
      Business card on one side.
Dropped off film - and found that the woman we know there has been hand-making business cards.
      Beautiful ones.
      Hand lettered.
      Well, that fits in.
      Things do come together.
We are looking for a logo for the Naked Housewife Series. (http://www.thenakedhousewife.com)
I also need some promo things for the Leukemia - through a Mother's Eyes book and also for Adventures in Stalking Fabio - especially since he said that he'd be on the cover of that one.
      Busy, busy, busy.
      Oh yes.
I also found a paranormal investigator.
