Short Chemo Day???

2002 Story Set

Date: September 19, 2002
It was to be a short chemo day - ha ha ha
first, he was gasping in the shower - had to sit on the can for a bit (15 minutes) to catch his breath
I had to pour water on him while he sat because he got out of the shower soapy.
Then I dressed him and got him to the truck (yes - the truck went to the       hospital - took all of 20 minutes to park it) The van needs service.
Like now! And the truck is right behind it. (8100 miles already!).
We did the hospital run at 9AM in the truck.
They took him in in a wheelchair - ran an access to the port and drew blood.
They gave him a small bolis while counts came back.
Blood was ordered (another 2 units - 2 units last week).
      He was pale and weak.
He had not had breakfast - and had skipped much of the meals yesterday.
Blood was due at 3PM - chemo was cancelled - so - no room for us while we wait.
I took him down in the chair for food - soup, ice cream and milk.
I had salad and coffee (decafe mocha - my hospital days treat).
At 3 we went to the day hospital --- and it was a 4-hour schedule for blood transfusion.
About an hour in - he suddenly got hungry - sent me for salad, roll, grilled chicken - first food in weeks!
His pants are 6" too big!
He dropped from 112 KG to 98 KG - thin as a rail (actually at the right weight - now needs to build muscle while losing fat).
Wish I could drop weight that fast!!!!
He feels better - in his room.
Medifast came -I can diet now.
I (having won the garage back from the hornets with the bug bomb) put clothes in the dryer.
It is nearly 9PM!!! 12-hour day!!! I have stood, pushed him around (he had an xray too), waited in the hallway, and sat in hard plastic chairs.
Also rocked myself in the wheelchair while he slept.
      I am cross-eyed!!!!
Truck appears to have survived. (That parking lot is rough!)
I had originally thought I would get the camper shell put on today and the truck bed liner - ha ha - will do that in the next week or so. Maybe.
He has a spinal test in two weeks - God! Did three months go by that fast!!!!!!
This is the test to see if he is still in remission.
They actually said that last week when they moved him out of 2 North to 3 East that he was doing better than anyone else in the ward - meaning that they had critical kids all over the place - one at least may not make it that I know of - talked to the mother - kid fell out and relapsed a second time - 5 years so far for her - and this time chemo does not work. Scary.
