2003 Story Set
| Date: December 24, 2003 The rain came in buckets December 24th - I had my camping wet shoes on. - My son had boots and we ran to Trader Joe's for rye bread and dried apples (for the fruitcake). Well, next year's fruitcake. Yuck! It was pouring. We shopped - wine, dark chocolate and hot chocolate mix. Geradelli or whatever it's spelled and salmon for supper and Portobello mushrooms for the stuffing. And a stress spa bath thing for my older son. We have little lines (normal lines). Wonder where the shoppers are. And a lot of stuff (of course). Hazelnuts for fruitcake, dried apples, green beans and dog biscuits. It had stopped raining so we took advantage of the free wreath!!! (Which as of New Years was still lovely with a candle in the center.) And I got a white flowering bush which can go in the ground around the new patio once it's in. Or I should say, uncovered. Target was near - and did not look crowded - so my son of course can't have Christmas without Target. In spite of last night's run (with a discount card) on Men's warehouse - and the leather jacket and two shirts for him and two more for my other son. So we went to Target (not hard to park). No long lines. We shopped until the cart overflowed (normal) - BIG candles (one for each of us) and holders and rocks to go round and door mats (one in and one out) - after spending a day scrubbing the hall and entry rug and sometimes on my hands and knees. I decided we needed better doormats. I wanted the rug to last a little bit! He found pens and shiny things for his brother who is broke this year. I got DVDs - some just $6. And my younger son stumbled into the Lego sets. What he had been hunting in the Toy's R Us store. He wanted a big one (the $99 variety) and how about a second? Because, before he was ill, 3 1/2 years ago, he used to get a BIG set every year and spent a day or two putting it together. He is regressing. I do not mind. Pick up the pieces. And then I found a chess set - Star Wars - for my older son. And I got THONGS and a shirt --- "I bring nothing to the table". Ha ha. We have to have silly presents. (By stuffing the thongs appropriately and draping them around the candle holder, my older son could not guess his present. Spoilsport!) There were no check out lines!!!! Of course we set off the alarms when we left. Oh fine! One of the DVDs. I knew what it was. The big security guard comes over. Sees the receipt (over $500) and starts waving things back and forth. It was a DVD! Told you! One time - it was my new bra!!! Which had my son falling down laughing. We went to Togos for lunch - with my bread at home rising. And a woman came up and grabbed my son. It took us 10 minutes to recognize the woman who did his blood draws at Unilab. The one I used to have to pull off of him. Egad! I can't take him anywhere. Mobbed at the hospital, now mobbed in the mall! He is entirely too cuddly. I came home - and the cookies (gingerbread) were cool (ready to decorate). And the bread - oh the bread - it had overflowed. All over the counter - which was covered in flour (for kneading). Like an alien growth. SIgh --- After I get that done I need the two pies - pumpkin and apple and then mad wrapping must take place. I also got a lilies - a potted plant while at Trader Joe's - like the ones I had grown from QVC and it has blooms (6) and is lovely. It will add to my bulb collection. Some beauty amid the chaos. My son is eating in his room and killing things on his computer games. I'm going to go pound bread.
