Trim, Of Course

2004 Story Set

Date: August 10, 2004
Of course, last week, before Chuck (my older son) walked up behind me in the back yard and nearly gave me a seizure (took several minutes to calm my heart rate down), I was trying to start the yard clean-up that is way, way overdue. Spring clean up as fall approaches.
And in the process of cutting back the 6-7' tall calla lilies that have now collapsed in a dead heap (they drop at the first sign of hot weather), I found that the back fence has a portion rotted at the bottom.
Add it to my list of chores.
But the fence looked OK for the moment.
One does not consider a dog that flings herself at the fence (the reason for redwood logs scattered all over the place) and digs wallows (big ones - take a whole redwood stump).
So there I am, Starbuck's in hand, about to indulge in a chocolate biscotti, when the doorbell rings.
I am in make up, frizzy hair (because it is) and still dressed from work. Fortunately.
      It is my back neighbor.
      And----
Seems a little brown and white dog has managed to move a board - and even though he boarded it up after discovering the hole (plywood doesn't stop her - ask the contractors) - she was in his yard again today.
Of course she is home and butter would not melt in her mouth when I get home.
      HA!
I put yet another redwood stump against the fence.
      and emailed my contractor.

I think the whole damn thing needs reinforcing.
And I need 3' high barrier so she can't get to it - must think about that.
She has claw marks all over the fence - all sides - all three yards.

I could try adding bushes - but if she doesn't like where I put one - she will simply dig it up.

Contractor showed up on instant messenger
Will look at fence tomorrow he says-----
Had wine - empty stomach - then made chicken fingers fried in olive oil and a lot of chopped visalia onion (sweet onion)
Rice and steamed green beans ---
      Added mandarin orange slices

Very very good and finished the wine - sloshed--- tail bone no longer hurts tho
Wore my new orthodics too long I guess

      Contractor bringing me tuna-----
      Fresh caught ---- mmmmmmm
      Peace offering
