Relatives

2004 Story Set

Date: August 10, 2004
Every bother and sister has been married twice.
Except one, who has made it seven times.
I have two sets of parents, or had.
Both my mother and father married again after the divorce.
When I was engaged and determined that I would have a lasting marriage --- ha ha - my Dad took us, my soon to be husband and me, to an old graveyard and showed us tombstones - where ancient relatives had two wives each.
Said it was a family tradition.
      I have photos.
I have no idea where those gravestones are.
My father, before he died, had traced our family all around New York State, Massachusetts and Connecticut.
      We were farmers and lawyers?
      Since 1705?
He had us traced back to England in Worchester to 1425?
My mother has done that on her side.
      She was born in Canada.
Her mother, Grace Armstrong, was born in Scotland.
We are very, very Scotts. And Welch. And Irish. And English. And French, Dutch and German. They all ran through there.
My mother's sisters all married twice too. I think most of them outlived the first ones.
      Maybe not.
      They outlived the last ones.
      They are all gone now.
I did it twice too. And then decided that it was a hindrance to raising my boys - who took up all my spare time and some that wasn't.
Now my boys want me out looking ---- ha ha.
I just want to curl up with a book. Get back on my treadmill. Loose about 50 pounds or maybe more.
And travel to England to look at old castles and Regency houses.
