Today they did blood counts --- and his counts took a radical drop - really radical.
This could be an infection, leukemia coming back, or just his counts taking a drop because they felt like it.
His accounts are never that high. (2.9 when 4-11 is normal).
They also said - his kidneys are running at 50% - he can never take Aleve and stuff like that (permanent damage) but at 50% he should be fine for the rest of his life. They had nearly failed (being shut off by tumors) back in July 2000. He would have died in three days if we had not whisked him into the hospital. (Yes, that had been the original date with Fabio - after I bought him the second time).
So - instead of waiting for day 180, we being at day 144 - they are moving the bone marrow test forward - he has a bone marrow test next Monday and they reduced the immune suppressant - again. (This is Prograf or FK.) He will do 1 mg a day down from 3mg, and 2 mg the last two weeks.
And put him on meds for pneumonia protection (anti-viral) after discovering that they had stopped Bactrim but neglected to put him on a substitute. (Bactrim was causing other reactions.)
They made no mention of Magnesium levels so I will keep to 6 500 mg pills a day.
I will try to keep breathing until next week
His weight dropped 4 kilos and we all jumped on him (98 to 93) for not eating enough.
So I am cooking a giant pizza (he's fussy but he eats pizza).
OF course, between the blood test and the doctor's bad news we had traipsed all ofver the hospital visiting Clinic D and the pharmacy and Day Hospital at Lucille Packard and E1 at Stanford, where he has been treated.
Saying hello to people and bragging how well he looks. I am rooting for an infection that can be treated.
I am also rooting for a bad lab result.
Not like we have not seen them mess up lab results in the past.
Hope.
What I hang onto. And dark chocolate and red wine ans taking my son to the movies.
